Bidrage med feedbackFantastic breakfast wrap, coffee, fresh baked goods plus informative, engaging patter with patrons --in both official languages-- from owner and staff. Similar spontaneous raves overheard from other departing customers. This young couple is creating the kind of place and the kind of fare that will make Nipigon the off-the-highway destination it deserves to be.
We tried this restaurant once previously, and, although it wasn't great, we thought we would give it another chance. Oops, bad idea! We arrived at the end of the lunch hour with our two grandchildren when it was fairly busy, fully expecting to have to wait a little while for our order. When I placed my order and paid, the machine asked about adding a tip, so I jokingly asked the cashier how the service was going to be. He indicated that it was going to be alright, so I picked a middle tip option to coincide with his less than enthusiastic service forecast. Oops again. We patiently waited for an hour before finally inquiring as to the whereabouts of our order at which time we were told that there were still two orders ahead of ours. When the meals finally arrived another 5 minutes later, they finally admitted that our order had actually gotten misplaced. No apology was offered. My wife asked about some restitution for the mixup and was told that the manager would have to be consulted. Unfortunately, the manager never showed up to offer any compensation or apologize for the mixup or the poor service. We also complained to a second worker, who did nothing and made no attempt to confer with a manager or apologize. So, customer service, 0/5. The time to being served was unacceptable, an apology was absent, and it was obvious that multiple members of the staff had inadequate training on how to handle it when customers had a complaint. The food was average. I had a chicken wrap and had to verify with one of the staff that that is what I had been served. Maybe they were running low on chicken, because I had a hard time finding much in my wrap. The water was fine, but you had to serve yourself. This isn't the first restaurant that I have rated as you can see, but it is certainly one of the worst experiences that I have encountered in my travels. If you are looking for great service and food in Nipigon, treat yourself to the Edgeview Restaurant which is also listed as Sunnyside Cafe (they are both the same place but listed twice in the trip advisor ratings).I dislike rating a restaurant poorly, but hopefully the owners will read this and add customer service training to their "Things to do" list.
Open, relaxed atmosphere with serious attention to coffee and great baked goods. Limited hours are it's only hang up.
It feels like you are coming into Dan and Caitlin's home when you come here. They are very wonderful hosts, and you are greeted warmly when you come in the door. They are the only place in town to get a latte or espresso. They also have ice cream in the summer, which is perfect if you're going to the park. They have a great location right downtown beside the Thrift Shop, Museum and Paddle to the Sea Park and splash pad. The food is different here - not for everyone - but if you want something different or if you are vegetarian this is the place to eat in Nipigon. They are also a bakery - their fresh buns and ginger cookies are my favourites. They also sell local art, coffee, and souvenirs which is cool. Dan is an avid rock climber so if you want recommendations about where to climb in the area, ask him!
After hiking the ouimet canyon and eagle suspension bridges (2 separate stops), we were starving.Lunch for 2 < $20 CAD. Hearty Italian meatball soup, granola cookie, coffee. My husband had a turkey dinner sandwich with a side salad. Assortment of pastries. Free WiFi. Artwork for sale. The local artsy coffee shop.
