Bidrage med feedbackWe had dinner on a Thursday night in July. We had reservations but the restaurant was not crowded. When we arrived, we waited at least 5 minutes to be acknowledged.....I was getting ready to leave. Finally, a server came and seated us. It became obvious that one server was responsible for the entire dining room as well as seating guests. He was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu but just couldn't do everything efficiently. We found the food to be very good. The steamed mussels were excellent and my wife enjoyed a watermelon gazpacho. I had a veal entrée that was very good as well, although the blueberries added to mushroom sauce didn't really make sense.Hopefully, the staffing issues can be addressed as this has the potential to be an excellent restaurant.
We arrived at the Flour Mill on Saturday evening of the August long weekend and were able to quickly find free on-site self parking. The historic facade of the Old Stone Inn is well appointed with a welcoming fountain. We approached the draped front entrance and were met by the friendly resident magician who entertained us for a few minutes. We took note of the interior decor and preserved newspaper archives telling the story of the site. We enjoyed the signature drinks from the amiable bartender as well as local craft beer in the quaint 1904 bar and Trius red wine with dinner. Comfortable antique furniture and games on tables in the bar made for a relaxed atmosphere. We were promptly seated in the restored dining area complete with a labeled cloakroom and upper balcony at upscale wooden tables and studded chairs. Our server was efficient and knowledgeable. We ordered the daily special of rock lobster tail and scallops as well as featured steak and trout dinners with specialty salad and pork belly appetizers. All food was delicious and pleasingly presented. Dessert included chocolate cake and fruit to celebrate our birthday honouree. The atmosphere was quirky and trendy, reminiscent of Harry Potter. We ended the evening in the lower level with the magic show and drinks. We will definitely return.
Why this isn't rated as the best restaurant in town, I may not ever know. However, we had dinner at the Watermark yesterday and frankly, I was not impressed -- fabulous view, okay food, outrageous prices. We just got back to our hotel after a fabulous dinner at the Flour Mill. Chef made duck prosciutto with figs over burrata cheese garnished with cherry puree; beef tartare with a fresh quail egg; a gazpacho of peach, mango, mint and curry; all fabulous, and that was just the beginning. Add a fresh bread made daily, so good that I didn't want to put butter on it. Perfectly balanced entrees. We had the pork over red quinoa with granny smith apples and topped with a fennel slaw; the chicken over Yukon gold mash and a kale/fennel puree; and the pasta with broccoli rabe, burrata, red pepper and garlic. If that wasn't enough, consider that the food is all locally sourced. If you are a foodie, skip the big hotel and casino restaurants and head to the Flour Mill.
Took our 8 year old here for birthday dinner. They treated him like a king. The staff was more than accommodating and even gave him a special seat. Our waiter recommended an awesome wine and meal for me. My wife got the speciial and it too was fabulous. The wine and food were outstanding and to top it off all three desserts we chose we out of this world. Thanks to all and especially Matt our waiter.
In a sea of fast food restaurants in Niagara, it's not easy to find a unique establishment with made-from-scratch food. The Flour Mill is a rare find. Our family enjoyed lunch, everything was delicious including the salmon tacos, grilled ceaser salad and steak sandwiches. Heather, our server, was amazing. I would definitely recommend this charming restaurant.
