Blackbird Doughnuts Newton Centre

We are in town for Labor Day, and this place was recommended to us. We looked on Google, looked on their website, and there was nothing saying they were closed today. Their website even allowed us to order and notified us that the doughnuts were ready, but when we drove 25 minutes to get there, the location was closed even though it was hours before their listed closing time.

Donuts here are great. But yesterday at noon I went to get a donut and had a bad interaction with the employee there. I asked if they had any vegan donuts available and he just pointed to all the donuts, not answering my question and when he rung me up he was very rude and short tempered. However when a young woman behind me was next in line he preceded to do small talk and completely shifted tones. The workers are usually really nice, I don’t know what he’s doing there.

Honestly, not good. The donuts were basically bread with frosting and at 3.50/4 dollars each I was expecting something much sweeter.

Blackbird Doughnuts is a classic doughnut shop experience. Inside you will find all of the classic doughnuts, plus maybe one or two interesting seasonal doughnuts. The coffee is what you would expect, or respectable quality with a modest selection that you would find at most other doughnut shops. Blackbird stops short of a five simply because I have been to many other doughnut shops which are pushing the envelope in one way or another and Blackbird just doesn't seem to fit that profile. I can name at least 5 off the top of my head who carry doughnuts that are either more interesting or better executed than Blackbird. It's not a mistake to come here, you'll be pleasantly satisfied with your doughnut and coffee experience. Just don't expect to be wowwed or inspired by what they have for sale here. They're doughnuts, they're coffee, they are what you'd expect.
