Launay's - Newark and Sherwood

We decided to have a birthday luncheon at Launay's, even though we hadn't planned to eat there. We had met a butcher at Rutland show who had recently opened a bistro in Sherwood, but unfortunately it was closed that day. Since it was one of the hottest days of the year, we didn't want to travel far and remembered passing by Launay's on a previous visit to Edwinstowe. We were the only diners in the restaurant. The chairs were a bit low and not very supportive. For starters, we shared salmon with wasabi pea purée and fennel citrus spherified balls, which were absolutely fantastic. We also had chorizo Cumberland and a perfectly cooked egg. For the main course, we had fried pulled pork and a sous vide steak, which I wanted to try because I do sous vide cooking at home. However, I found it to be lacking in flavor and a little dry. The tomato relish was pretty good, served in an old marmalade jar. Dessert was amazing, with basil cheesecake topped with micro lemon balm. We will definitely come back to try more dishes from the à la carte menu.

The kids' meals were excellent and this restaurant is definitely worth the price. £16 for a 2-course meal of such great quality was unbelievable. We just wish we could dine there more frequently.

The restaurant provided exceptional service from their friendly and pleasant staff. The dishes were expertly prepared and beautifully presented, and we would definitely dine there again.

Visited as a big group on a sunny day. We arrived early but our waitress quickly found us a big table outside to have some drinks whilst table inside was being prepared for lunch. Good selection of food with something for everyone gluten free, dairy free, meat eaters, vegetarians and pescatarian. All portions served were very generously sized and nicely presented fish and chips, pie and mash, mussels, risotto. Nice atmosphere too. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

We chose The Launay for a family get together and a sunday lunch , i have to say we made a excellent choice . The food was a set menu but very very good. The choice was good , presentation was tremendous , attention to detail . All the staff were very attentive and made us feel really welcome . Inside was set out beautiful , decorated to a high standard , only downside it was a little cramped .But we would deffinatly return .
