Massawa - New Westminster

Long wait because they were so very busy. The food was tasty!!!

Super friendly hosts. Good vibe. Plenty of fresh and delish food for a great price. All around great meal out.

Since I have never had East African food I can't speak to the authenticity, but I had an amazing culinary experience here at Massawa. I took my brother out for his birthday as we were both curious about this restaurant, having walked past it regularly. Inside it's vibrant colours and relaxed atmosphere.The food was DELICIOUS, for me personally I found it a little spicy, possibly from my own silliness in thinking whatever spicy pepper was on top of my dish was a basic green bell pepper and eating a large chunk of that right out the gates. I'll be back, I'm excited to try more of the flavors to be found in African cuisine.

Tried all the Ethiopian restaurants in Vancouver and this is the best one. Lol sorry van. Their tibs were so tender and the sauce was good, glad it wasn’t overly spicy but spicy enough. Also enjoyed their green salad; a great simple dish is the sign of a great restaurant. Ethiopian is my favourite kind of food in the world, I’m always amazed these places aren’t packed. People are slipping!I just wish they had that honey wine hehe

Oh wait, I HAVE to give at least one?I was looking forward to trying this interesting new restaurant in my neighbourhood when they opened several months ago but walking past it several times I decided to give up on the idea. There is always a bunch of people smoking on the terrace and nearby sidewalk which is covered in cigarette butts and garbage. Looks like a giant unappealing ashtray. I spoke about that to the folks there a few times who were not too friendly. The place still looks unhygienic every time I walk by. If they can't respect their own front yard, how to they manage their kitchen at the back?
