This place truly fits under the heading, 'hidden gem ' so much so that I am tempted to steer you wrong on its location. That would be selfish and just wrong however, plus its really not that hidden in the literal sense. Located in the inside corridor area of Royal Square at 8th and McBride, this is a food court eatery. As malls go, this one provides a very nice 'dining room ' for IT Burger! Complete with a beautiful 2 story wood carving and skylights, and seemingly, minimal traffic, we ate in a mall and didn 't hate the surroundings! Now we don 't usually seek out 'mall food ' but I had read about IT Burger in a couple of trusted local food blogs (and this is why you should read food blogs) and knew that the burger was worth coming for! Two beefy nicely charred patties, with bacon and cheese and delightful sweet caramelised onions. These onions must have cooked slowly and forever. They were amazing! The fries were world class also. Skin on and very crisp, I upgraded to Chilli Fries. This was not a mistake. Marie is not keen on burgers but that 's OK as IT serves a variety of other things also. She had the Butter Chicken on Rice which was as good as we have had at many Indian restaurants. The chef here has some history having cooked at The Westin Calgary and Buchanan 's Chop House and by all accounts, is always present. We had all this food and a couple of Cokes for only $25. Amazing!
My partner has been meaning to bring me to “Royal Mall” for some time now. This strip mall in New Westminster” is an out door space with an inside courtyard and foodcourt. The latter would be our destination. Where the number of available tables and the age of their chairs speak to the traffic. This is the home of “IT burger”, a foodcourt stall offering a plethora of cuisines, and not just what its name suggests.
I am addicted to their hand cut fries! The cheeseburger is my go-to; the beef patty is always juicy, not too big yet very filling, and the lightly toasted bun tops it off perfectly. The reason I docked half a point in my review was because of the processed ``cheddar`` cheese used on the burgers. (I am unsure if they offer other kinds though as I have yet to ask).
I was a little skeptical about these reviews as I am a burger fiend. I went to try these and I have agree with them and go one step further... These are the BEST BURGERS in New Westminster BAR NONE!!!! Real meat, real fries (not the prefab frozen ones you get at most places. People like to call them 'home fries '. I think they should be called 'real fries! All the food is made fresh and to order on a real flame broiling BBQ grill. So don 't expect your food in 2 mins. There 's one guy working here and this isn 't McDonald 's. The regular burger is 3 oz and for some people it may be too small but the burger and fries was the right portion for me. The comments about difficulty trying to find it is correct. There are few signs as Royal Square is a tiny nondescript mall. But I 'll be back. It 's always feels good to support a mom and pop place. Great value, quality and taste!
