Bidrage med feedbackWe arrived early for our reservation and were offered high top seating by the window near the bar instead of the dining room. It was a great spot, although the noise from the wine cart being moved in and out of the back room on the tile was a bit distracting. Our server was exceptional, attentive, and personable. The appetizers, Johnny crab cake and lemon poached shrimp at $20 each, were just okay. The crab cake was mostly cornbread and lacked crab, while the shrimp were better but not overly flavorful. I would suggest waiting for dinner. I ordered the salmon on risotto, which was phenomenal, and my husband had the NY Sirloin with poached lobster, which was delicious. The baked Alaska dessert was also tasty. We would return for dinner in the dining room.
We made a reservation for June 17th, but when we arrived we were informed that the reservation was actually for the 20th. It's unclear why the mistake was made, but it's important for staff to be more careful with reservations.
I visited Salt Kitchen and Bar while visiting some family friends and had a nice meal there. Our table ordered the mushroom risotto, two fish dishes and their spaghetti dishes too. The food was overall satisfying, with generously portioned dishes that left us feeling quite content. The freshness of their seafood was a highlight. Most menu items leaned towards being cheesy and rich and definitely were very indulgent. The risotto was a prime example of this with the oil on the bottom overshadowing the rest of the flavors a bit too much. The real star of the show, however, was the restaurant's ambiance. Salt Kitchen and Bar boasts a stunning atmosphere with private dining rooms, a gorgeous ceiling, classy decor and cleanly environment. The beautiful decor and thoughtful lighting create a sophisticated yet welcoming environment, perfect for special occasions or to treat yourself. Despite the positive aspects, the service to deliver our food was slightly slow. There was a noticeable wait for our food and a wait to be seated but it was around 8-9 when we arrived so it could be understandable. That said, the overall experience was still enjoyable, and the lovely atmosphere compensated for the extended wait.
Just enjoyed a superlative lunch at Salt. Their Restaurant Week menu is out of this world!
Dined here on Father's Day and was very disappointed. The place is clean and so nice, it's a shame that the food is inconsistent and ridiculously expensive. I had the lamb this time and it was just ok. Bland and not worthy of the $64 price tag. The mussels were not good at all this time around and the other two entree's were also a major let down. The chicken saltimbocca was overcooked and bland. The WALNUT PESTO FUSILLI was also bland and disappointing. Two of us had the Hearts of Romaine salad which really is a Caesar salad. I'd give the salad 3.5 stars, it was also on the bland side. Finally, we had the margarita flatbread as an appetizer. I'd give that four stars. The stone oven flatbreads are very good and if I ever go back...that's about all I'd have. Otherwise, service was excellent and desert was delicious. I don't mind paying a premium for great food but this was average food at best. There are so many other great restaurants just minutes away in Portsmouth, serving much better food at half the price. That's my update!
