Le Quai - Narbonne

Superb magret du canard with foie! in front of the river, this restaurant has a fantastic kitchen with normal trips.

Freshest fish, served with joy from a delightful waiter. the wobble soup and utter fantastic. recommend the 3 'small' desserts, although they may need help! every small part of our evening and all very good worth. very recommended, our favorite restaurant narbonne.

We normally eat at smaller, less formal places than Le Quai where we are never disappointed, but we liked the idea of the gesiers salad on the blackboard and took a seat overlooking the carpark next to the canal. The waitress indicated the salad was...only an entree, and we would need to order another dish as well, so I ordered the piece of steak, my wife the fish, as mains. Now the salad with gesiers was perfect but when she brought out the steak with curls of gristle sticking up and the saddest pile of soggy brown fries imaginable, I figured that perhaps this is some new way to present France's staple lunch time dish. After trying unsuccessfully to cut the steak, (which I ordered cooked a point I had to ask for another knife and was offered a steak knife (any competent eatery normally places a steak knife in front of you whenever ordering steak without the need to ask . With a proper steak knife in hand, I still had trouble sawing through what had to have been the cheapest cut of meat in the market that day, and then I couldn't chew through the pieces anyway. I tried a couple of the fries but the brown soggy things tasted as bad as they looked. The waitress noticed I was having trouble with cutting the steak so then brought out a pizza cutting tool, which I rightly declined, and left the almost untouched plate unfinished (did she really think that trying three different knives was going to make that piece of shoe leather edible? So whilst waiting for my wife to finish her fish which she said was OK, I looked around to see another who had also ordered steak sawing away like a carpenter, so I wasn't alone. There was no apology offered, so obviously this is quite the norm here, and being tourists we are fair game for unloading inedible food onto because we wouldn't be back anyway, so we paid up and left.

We came several times in this restaurant, the service is excellent. You feel welcome. food is of good quality and well served. You're not hungry when you leave this restaurant. the staff was nice and very good dessert and gourmet coffee. We'll come back for sure.
