Shanghai City - Nanaimo

I ordered the vegetarian combo for delivery and was really pleased with the value for money—it was also quite tasty! The spring rolls and dumplings would have been significantly improved if they had come with a dipping sauce. The noodles were a bit plain on their own, but they paired perfectly when mixed with the tofu and vegetables in black bean sauce. Overall, this dish was delicious and had a good portion of tofu and well-cooked veggies. I would definitely order from this place again. One thing I would have appreciated is chopsticks and napkins, as I was staying in a hotel. Fortunately, I had my own fork with me. I'm really happy they offered vegetarian options, particularly a combo of appetizers and a main dish.

Most of us opted for the buffet, although one friend with Celiac disease ordered from the menu, and from what I gathered, there weren’t many gluten-free options available. The food was decent, and while we appreciated that the waitress occasionally came by to refill our water, we were never asked if anyone wanted alternative drinks. When we requested to have our bills split by family, most were divided between two to three people. However, when I went to pay our portion, I found that a 15% tip had been automatically added because we were a large group. This was somewhat disappointing, as the overall experience felt like we were more of an inconvenience, being tucked away in a corner and largely ignored. While I understand that we were a sizable group, the restaurant wasn’t busy, so this shouldn’t have been a significant issue. At this point, I don’t think we’ll be returning.

The buffet was an excellent choice, with tasty and hearty food. The dumplings were particularly delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and polite, providing outstanding service. I will definitely return. As for kid-friendliness, it's a great restaurant for families.

It's been years since I've come here, but still it's a good restaurant. The waiters and waitresses are kind, patient and attentive. Some of the food honestly changes flavor from batch to batch, but it's still overal good. We went when there was very few other people so it was a good atmosphere, but when it's full it gets a little noisy, but that is anywhere.Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating for working with people with food allergies.

The buffet had a good assortment of typical items and the staff refilled immediately, as needed. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Their mixed drinks need work but we’ll definitely go back for the food.Update: Dinner on July 2 was much different. Inattentive server, staff just standing around. We were upcharged because they added 2 dishes to the buffet! We didn’t leave happy this time and won’t be back.
