The Mexican Grill Of Muskegon

We absolutely adore the Mexican grill! We make it a point to visit once a week. Sara is an excellent waitress!

I love Aka Tailg8rz, especially their Taco Thursdays when tacos are just $1.60 each. The baby king burrito, without beans, is also a favorite of mine. However, I do have a concern about the 50-cent surcharge for takeout. It feels a bit petty, especially since they use Styrofoam containers that can’t be reheated without melting.

I really don't understand why this place has its current name; it's essentially a sports bar. I decided to order anyway and went for the bean burrito and fries. Unfortunately, the burrito was soggy and obviously microwaved. I spent half my meal struggling to peel paper off the tortilla. The fries cost $2.50, but there were only 16 of them! I shouldn’t be able to count my fries, let alone feel compelled to do so. I won’t be coming back.

My husband and his friend ordered wet burritos but were disappointed to find them drenched in brown gravy instead of red sauce. They ate them but were let down by the experience. On the plus side, the chips and salsa were tasty, and the beef nachos were enjoyable. Our waitress mentioned she was new, so we were understanding, but she did drop a few f-bombs, which didn’t seem appropriate for a family-friendly establishment. She attended to our table but never offered to refill our beer pitcher or ask if we wanted water after we finished our beers. Interestingly, she did keep our friend’s Coke topped up, which was odd. The menu featured several appealing items I’d like to try, but I have no intention of visiting close to closing time again. We arrived around 6:45 PM on a Sunday, and since they close at 9 PM, our waitress kept asking if we wanted to place our orders early (there was some confusion about whether the cook would be leaving soon). This made the atmosphere feel rushed, and we didn’t feel we could fully enjoy our time there, especially as we were her last table and it seemed like she wanted us to leave quickly. To top it off, they were cleaning vigorously, and the place smelled of cleaning products, which wasn’t pleasant. Overall, the food was decent, and the atmosphere could be improved, but I'm willing to give it another shot—maybe on a weekday when it's not nearing closing time. If you decide to go, just keep my feedback in mind.

Taco Thursday was outstanding. 1.50 tacos( and they were not little skimpy either). Dollar beer! What else can you ask for. 1/3 off appetizers, we had wings and nachos. We will be back often!
