Sol Toro - Montville

Sol Toro has a great Taco Tuesday deal with their Taco Special of the day. And if you don't want to leave your meal up to the Taco Tuesday gods, the tacos a la carte are not that much more expensive. Coming in, we were seated by the host and our waitress came to give us our menus. The ambiance is lively and elevated casual. The space is a little more modern but the vibes are definitely for everyone having a great time. We were lucky to have the barbacoa tacos run out and them being replaced with short rib by the time we ordered. Because the kitchen only had enough barbacoa for one order, my partner and I were able to try both the barbacoa and short rib tacos while still paying the Taco Tuesday price (score! . Before getting our tacos, we started our meal with some tasty coconut and mango margaritas and complimentary chips and salsa. My partner swears that the corn chips we had were the best he's ever had (which I might agree with . The corn chips were thin but sturdy and perfectly seasoned without being too greasy or salty. The salsa was good with the chips. Onto the main event: tacos. The Taco Tuesday Tacos also come with a side of creamy savory tortilla soup. It was my first time having tortilla soup and it was so good and creamy and the perfect thing to accompany the tacos. Portion wise, the tacos are big and they are generous with their meat portions. Taste-wise, my partner and I both preferred the barbacoa tacos which had a hint if spice, sweet, and savory. They were also really juicy. The short rib tacos, on the other hand, were more on the savory side and had a more predictable meatier taste. Both tacos were still very good. I also ordered a side of their matcha hot sauce, which I was warned, is very hot. Thankfully my spice tolerance is pretty good, but I would not recommend the matcha hot sauce to an average joe. The matcha hot sauce was surprisingly refreshing and cool tasting but the spice hit the back of the throat, making it very difficult to have it in large amounts. Overall, I've had some really good tacos and I'm happily surprised that Sol Toro's barbacoa tacos could stand up to some of the tastiest tacos I've had. I came to Mohegan Sun to gamble but now I have to reconsider if the main event is the gambling or the eating.

We ate at Sol Toro last night for the first time prior to a concert in the arena and it was amazing! The food was delicious (we had the empanadas as an appetizer, I had the chicken tacos (the best I've ever had) and my friend had the chicken quesadilla--all of it was beyond delicious). Service was great and loved the ambiance. Will definitely be back!!

The food and service were both fantastic. We had the table side guacamole, chicken fajitas, and pork belly tacos. Delicious!

The food, drinks and service always go beyond expectations. If anything needs to be changed, the servers and management go above and beyond to ensure your satisfaction. This last trip included a special menu item for Mexican Independence Day and was one of the best meals we've ever had. I wish they would add this as a regular menu item! Otherwise, we love the fajitas, shrimp ceviche, spicy pina margaritas, burritos, and tableside guacamole especially when Lucia adds her magic. Everything is above par!

I've visited this restaurant twice in the last two months for Taco Tuesday. I noticed they have a rewards program where you earn stamps for dining in on a Tuesday or Wednesday. After collecting six stamps, you can redeem them for a free entree. I asked to receive stamps for my visit yesterday and for my previous trip on October 3rd, as I had a photo of the receipt as proof. Additionally, I had checked in at the restaurant. Our waitress, who was wonderful, mentioned she needed to consult her manager. Unfortunately, he declined my request for the stamps, despite the documentation I provided. He even gave us only two cards instead of three, even though my father, who dined with us, had stepped out briefly. I'm baffled as to why he wouldn’t grant us the two stamps; it seems excessive. It’s already a challenge to have six meals on a Tuesday or Wednesday to earn the free entree, so while the program offers some incentive, it should be more customer-friendly. As a Yelp Elite and a frequent diner, I consider this to be a very poor level of customer service, and due to this experience, my family and I have decided we will not be returning to Soltoro.
