Yoshi Sushi - Montréal

This small restaurant is really charming. I feel fortunate to live on a street with two of Montreal's top sushi restaurants, Yoshi and Tri, right across from each other. Yoshi is slightly more affordable and less flashy, but their food is consistently good. After trying some disappointing sushi around the city since moving here, I keep coming back to Yoshi. The fish is always fresh, and I have never had a piece that was subpar or not sushi-grade. While the tuna may not be the bright pink color you typically see, it is delicious and has been consistently great in the two and a half years I have been a customer. The sushi rolls have their own unique style and there is a wide variety to choose from. My only critique would be that the chef, who is not Japanese, tends to use a bit too much rice in the rolls and the tempura batter is a bit heavier than usual. However, the flavor combinations are delicious. On a side note, the owner is Vietnamese and may have better success opening a Vietnamese Pho restaurant since there is a lack of that cuisine in the area.
