Tropikal Restobar - Montréal

I had so high expectations of my first date night post lockdown. The disappointment came fast. The reservation was for 9, it took another half an hour for the hostess to take us to our table. I had asked for a table during our reservation, but they tried to give us the worst that almost blocked the entrance. We chose the bar instead. They sat at the bar, and it was just sticky. I had to ask her to delete the counter. I was enlightened by the fact that my glass was on the evil counterpart. The dishes and drinks came out quickly and were good, except for rice and beans that had no taste. Since the food was delicious and the music was good, we tried to make the best of it. But then, even though we had food and drinks before us, the rude hostess came to tell us our hour and half was up and we had to go basically. Where is that?! Despite all, we have tipped well, as the servers have done their best and were in no way reactive for the administration/hosts. I'm really disappointed. I don't think I'm going back, nor will I recommend it.

Only disappointment I was asked not to sit at the bar and we were unfortunately. It has proved to be a good thing because we could stay longer! Great place, always good times when we go there.

I have to admit this was one of my worst dining experiences. I had sent them a message asking if we can come earlier, they didn’t even respond, we decided to come at our scheduled time, just in case. We were seated right next to the kitchen, with multiple other couples who were there on Valentine’s Day, the tables were so close, we felt like we were on a double date, and the kitchen door kept opening and closing and making a squeaky noise throughout the evening, this is not their fault, but really didn’t feel romantic at all. As we sat down, the first thing they said was your reservation is for an hour and a half (lol what? people don’t go to a restaurant to grab a quick bite and bounce, even saying this it took them half an hour to take our order (drinks included , they had 1 waiter, 1 on a super busy night. The second we ordered, the food came with lightning speed, a little too fast if you ask me, everything tasted bland. Caribbean food is supposed to be marinated for days, the food tasted like it was marinated for 5 minutes, we had the jerk chicken Mac and cheese, the plantain, the jerk chicken and the oxtail tacos. Every single thing was bland and rushed, very disappointing since the chef is supposed to be renowned, almost feels like he pays for the PR/Marketing, because the food was terrible. At the end, they quickly cleaned the table and rushed to give us the bill to make sure we were out within the time frame. I will not go back and I’m writing this so other people don’t end up in this situation, if you’re looking for yummy Caribbean food go to La Palme, that place is absolutely amazing!

Bustling even on a sunday night! Great decor loved the bathroom doors : Outstanding cocktails and delicious food We shared the sweet plantain with spicy aioli, curry goat and griot Yum Recommend for a taste of the caribbean , particularly welcome in montreal winter!
