Bidrage med feedbackThis Portuguese restaurant located in the vibrant Plateau Mont-Royal area has been a beloved institution since it first opened in 1974. Specializing in fish, seafood, poultry, and meat cooked on a charcoal grill, the restaurant offers a diverse menu suitable for all occasions. The establishment boasts two distinct dining areas: one with linen tablecloths ideal for special occasions or dates, and another on the bar side that has a more laid-back atmosphere. I have visited this restaurant numerous times and have always had a delightful experience.
The restaurant Chez Doval is a Portuguese institution on Marie-Anne Street. It's a restaurant that existed long before the piri piri trend. In fact, it has been open since 1974. The décor is still the same as it was in the beginning, giving it a bit of a cave-like feel. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of their roasted chicken as I find it dry. Currently, my favorite is the one from Canthino with their creamy piri piri sauce. However, what I love at Chez Doval is their seafood. The shellfish are wonderful, whether it's mussels or clams. I'm usually not a fan of whole fish, but the sea bass is excellent here. Of course, the skin can be slightly burnt, but the flesh inside is very tasty. My only critique is the service. I think the waiter was tired and a bit rude. I tried to be cheerful and positive despite this, and eventually, he became nice and chatted with us a bit. In short, it reminds me of a Chinese restaurant: you go for the food, not the service. Go for: -the mussels -the clams -the sea bass -the Dover sole
One of the best traditional portuguese restaurants in Montréal. Noisy and chaotic sometimes, in a good way. All-male staff, casual and frequently abrupt service. Excellent simple seafood, fish, grilled meats. Very 'boys club '.
The food is excellent. Makes up for the so so service. The waiters can be a bit rude sometimes, but I still go cause the food is that good. It's all very traditional Portuguese food. Nothing fancy, just good homestyle dishes. I don't recommend the desserts though.
Great shrimp entre, and the grilled squid was good, but the seafood casserole was a little bland and over priced, but I will be coming back to try some of their other dishes
