El Rey Burrito Lounge - Montgomery

I visited for the first time and noticed that the service was a bit slow, likely due to being short-staffed. However, the chorizo cheese dip was excellent. The fajitas lacked flavor, but I really enjoyed the black beans and rice.

I’ve heard so much about El Rey, and we finally had a chance to try this legendary eatery. Recently, I’ve been tired of the microwave meals and canned Mexican food, and El Rey was a refreshing change. The queso dip, guacamole, and even the unexpectedly spicy salsa/pico were all fantastic. My wife, a longtime fan of the restaurant, ordered the puerco verde quesadilla, while I chose the burrito filled with beans, rice, cheese, and guacamole, topped with salsa/pico. The rice had a wonderful, distinct flavor, the guacamole was fresh, and the entire burrito was delicious and satisfying. We even treated ourselves to a snifter of the Gran Centenario Leyenda Extra Añejo tequila, which added a lovely touch to our evening. A big shoutout to the staff, bartender, and chefs for doing an amazing job at this small, independent restaurant!

I dined here with my Ukrainian family, who had limited English skills, and the staff was incredibly kind and patient as I translated the menu for them. The food was delicious, and the margaritas we ordered for the table were excellent. Our waiter, Joseph, even went the extra mile to say "enjoy" in Ukrainian. We truly had a wonderful dinner and will definitely return! A tip: if you're dining at night, try sitting outside on their lovely porch area, as the inside becomes quite dark and it can be tough to read the menu. This might have been due to our late visit, as they could have been in a bar mode.

The service could have been improved, especially since the restaurant wasn't very busy. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to our memories from ten years ago.

El Rey was fantastic as always! We sat outdoors, and it was lovely! I had a watermelon margarita, and it was excellent.
