The Britannia Arms - Monterey

Eating is shockingly good, I have avoided this place because of the mixed reviews, but I regret that. I think people have unrealistic impressions of popular bars, but the bar channels were very attentive and I grew up in a large metropolis region. I think the bad reviews are a baptism of karen from the small town Californians that are upset that there are other people in the bar.

Had an explosion on a watch party for the union game. Eating was great, cheap drinks, huge screen to watch the game, big energy. could not ask for more!

Place was really cool- like an old pub. Drinks were fine and food was delicious. We had dirty table and if you will pay they will ask you if you already paid then you need to leave ....but still fine

Got the fried artichoke hearts and steak salad. Didn't finish either. I've never had fried artichokes hearts before, so I'm not sure if they were supposed to taste the way these did, but I wasn't impressed. They were battered which was bland, could use atleast some salt and pepper and watery. They were hard to eat because they were so big and you can't really eat or cut in half. Served with ranch, but you can't dip them in the little container because the artichokes are too big. Steak for salad was overcooked (ordered med rare, came out medium and medium well in some parts) and I wasn't given a knife to cut it. Figured I wouldnt need it, but was wrong. Didn't see a server to get one until I was done. It came on a bed of iceberg, just unimpressive for a dish that is super easy. We came during shift change. Second server was very polite, just wasn't attentive and struggled to get our checks correct. I was told the bathrooms were gross and smelled, so I didn't even attempt to use the facilities. By the way the restaurant looked, I believed him. Parking is on the street and can be a pain at certain hours.
