Mr Mac's Canteen - Monroe

Mr. Mac’s Canteen has become a favorite destination for my family. It's a simple spot that excels in serving delicious American comfort food in a clean and welcoming environment. I personally can’t get enough of their spicy, mouthwatering chili dogs, while my kids absolutely adore their classic burgers and crinkle-cut fries. The chili dogs are made using a special technique that the family has preserved for decades, originating from the Merritt Canteen in Bridgeport.

The roadside hot dog stand is very much alive and well, right here in Monroe, Connecticut. It's worth the detour—trust me, you need to try their hot dogs. While they offer a variety of items on the menu, the hot dogs are the star of the show. I highly recommend the chili dogs; they're incredibly spicy and absolutely delicious. Another favorite of mine is their BLT served on a Portuguese roll. It’s not overloaded, but instead features a perfect balance of ingredients presented flawlessly.

Drove past this place for years, and finally stopped in today. Glad I did. Great for what it is – fast, friendly, inexpensive, and delicious. Definitely recommend it.

A cozy little place with great food for great prices. My current go-to is the Bacon Egg Cheeseburger, which is exactly what it sounds like. The staff is great and gets orders processed and paid for within moments. A great place for quick grill and diner food.Parking: Parking is usually great, as Mr Mac's is located in a plaza. Typically, spots are available in front of the Canteen, sometimes even during busy hours.

Delicious, fresh food. The best burgers and hotdogs around. Reasonable prices.
