Bidrage med feedbackI stopped by Ask for coffee and cake in the afternoon on my most recent visit. The staff greeted me warmly and the coffee and walnut cake was delicious.
We had tea from bone china, lovely soup and toasted bread. All in our own private room, shared with a giant stuffed rabbit.
We found exactly what we were looking for on our way back from Raglan Castle - a quaint, cozy cafe to warm us up on a chilly winter's day. The staff was very friendly and the cafe had a charming, quirky vibe, located above a post office.
I really enjoyed the unique and charming atmosphere of this establishment, which combines a post office, shop, cafe, garden, and house. We wandered through narrow corridors and found ourselves in a private garden with tables set up for lunch. Surrounded by beautiful flowers, birds, and butterflies on a sunny day, the experience was delightful. The service was efficient, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They offer a variety of smoothies, teas, and coffees. However, I would caution against eating here due to a limited food selection. We opted for scones, but were disappointed to learn that only one had thawed. We ended up with a scone and a teacake, which was acceptable but not outstanding. Unfortunately, the scone was clearly not freshly baked as claimed, with curdled cream and an unappetizing appearance. We returned it uneaten. The owner/chef was apologetic but mistakenly insisted the scone was fresh. While I wanted to recommend this place for its charm, I couldn't overlook the misleading information and potential food safety risks. It's still worth a visit for drinks and ambiance, but I advise against trying the food.
I love what they've done here, a very quirky and lovely post office/shop/cafe/garden/house. We traveled through the narrow corridors out into what can only be described as someone's private garden with a few tables set up for lunch. It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day and we were surrounded by lovely flowers, birds and butterfly's. The service is not too slow considering and the staff are friendly and helpful. They also do some nice smoothies and a selection of teas and coffees. However I would avoid eating here. The food choice is small, which is fine but we didn't want sandwiches so we decided to order scones. Upon ordering we were told that only one scone had defrosted so we ordered one scone and a teacake (which was absolutely fine if you don't mind cheap jam). But what we wrongly assumed was that just the scone was frozen, and it became apparent on arrival that the whole thing had been defrosted with jam and cream already inserted, the cream was all curdled and did not look good, and after one bite we decided it was not safe to eat and sent it back. We shared a teacake and still enjoyed the drinks and scenery but then the owner/chef came out and was most apologetic but actually said to us that he didn't understand what was wrong as the scone was freshly baked this morning!!!!. He should have just apologized instead of lying and it also should have been removed from our bill, If we'd have eaten this scone, there could have been severe consequences for us and the cafe. So as much as I'd really, really, like to recommend this place to everyone and had already taken pictures to show and recommend to my friends as I really did like the quirkiness of it all, I just can't risk it. It is nice to visit and have a drink.
