Mustard Seed Asian Cafe - Missoula

This is a great spot to go with non-vegetarian friends. The food was good, but it didn't quite reach amazing levels.

The restaurant's website was not updated and did not list their vegetarian or vegan options, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had a wide variety of vegetarian options on their menu, with most being vegan as well. The selections included vegetable fried rice, delicious teriyaki tofu, and more. They also always have a rotating vegan dessert, often featuring a berry herbal with vegan vanilla ice cream. I was impressed by the selection and especially loved the sweet and acidic tofu. The staff was knowledgeable about vegan options and extremely accommodating. In fact, on my first visit, I found out that the server was vegan too!

We were extremely pleased with the skill and attention to detail in the food at this restaurant. Both tofu dishes were cooked perfectly and had a light texture. The vegan fruit crunch was exceptionally delicious. The only downside was that I wished the tofu dishes came with cooked vegetables, but I was happy to have a salad instead. The dessert was tasty but on the smaller side.

I visited The Mustard Seed last night for the first time since they remodeled, based on the reviews I read on this site. I recalled that they had several vegan main dishes on their menu, and the reviews confirmed that. However, my experience during this visit was different. I was initially excited to see that menu items marked with a V meant they were vegan, but was disappointed to find that only 2 items, both appetizers, were labeled as such. On the bright side, the waitress was helpful and recommended some off-menu options that the kitchen could prepare for me, such as a vegan version of their Taco with tofu. While it wasn't anything extraordinary, it was tasty and a good portion size. Another option was a stir-fry of veggies that could be made with a vegan sauce, although I did not try this so I cannot comment. Unfortunately, there was no vegan dessert option available.

I ordered the vegetable stir-fried noodles and they were excellent. The sauce was delicious and the noodles were cooked perfectly.
