Bidrage med feedbackI have been here 3 times. Once by myself for lunch and had an excellent pulled pork sandwich and butterscotch pudding in October 2022 (5 stars). The second time was with my husband and son for lunch and we loved it (5 stars). Third time was my husband and I came there on a Friday night (4 stars). We had reservations; were seated immediately. The service was fine but our server asked us if we wanted to see a dessert menu while my husband was still eating his entree. I consider that not great server/restaurant etiquette. The appetizer and entrees were very good. We ordered 2 butterscotch puddings. They were served in 2 different-sized cups, so the amount in one of the cups was much more than the other cup. Of course I liked the larger cup. I would definitely come back again and recommend this restaurant.
Made my first visit since the move to the new location. The space is a little bit bigger than the old one and the retail section up front is expanded, but it retains the same charm. It's a nice place to get a fancy but unpretentious meal at the bar, but if a date took me here I'd be impressed too. The food is always fantastic. It can be a little hard to make a decision. Some people find a favorite and order it every time. And there are plenty of worthy contenders. The corned beef tongue Reuben is always good. Others swear by the chili. I saw several people getting the bread and cultured butter, or the cornbread. All fine choices. Today I flipped a coin to decide between the meatball and the Korean steak au jus. I got the Korean steak with a green salad on the side. This was the best meal I've had in awhile. The sandwich was messy to eat--turn it on its side to dunk in the hot pot broth and peanuts get everywhere. But I wouldn't sacrifice the peanuts for convenience. The steak was tender with some pleasant chew and the kimchi aioli and cabbage slaw added some crunch and complexity. The bread was up to the task of holding everything together and soaked up the broth. The salad was a nice portion, lightly dressed, with watermelon radish, tomatoes, cucumbers, and feta. It was a perfect accompaniment to the sandwich. I was already in a state of food bliss and the server asked if I wanted to look at the dessert menu. I got the brownie and ate it slowly, in small bites. It was warm and decadent but not too rich. Bavette is not cheap but for the quality and composition of the food it's a pretty good value, and casual enough to make a spontaneous lunch stop during a day in the Third Ward.
Visited Bavette for Saturday dinner for the first time for a party of 2. We made reservations a week in advance and were able to secure a table for dinner without any issues. Upon entering the restaurant, you see a small shop area with a lot of really cool rustic kitchen appliances tableware and greeted by many of the ingredients that they serve in their charcuterie boards before making your way to the host's stand. The staff were very friendly and we ended up ordering white wine, the chef's recommended charcuterie board, hamachi crudo, and the potato crusted octopus. The food was really special. I'm not the biggest cheese fan, but I love me some charcuterie meats. The charcuterie board consists of 3 cheeses and meats that the chef selects for you that day. We had a peanut and nut allergy and the team were very considerate and accommodating. At first I was hesitant about the portions of food, but the charcuterie board was really worth the price. At $30, you get a cheese and meat board with various dips and plenty of crackers and bread (and even candied pecans! . The board was enough for a party of 2 to split. The hamachi crudo and the octopus while tasting both amazing as well, were a bit on the pricier side $25+ each for a small appetizer, but worth it for the flavor they brought and the experience. Overall, was very surprised by the food served and will certainly be returning!
Babette is the go to place for some unique items. Specifically the tongue sandwich. Tongue is very hard to find in nice restaurant, but Bavette has a great version. In the summer you can sit outside also in a great location in the Third Ward. In the cooler weather, indoor works great. Nicely spaced tables and a great vibe with great service. Reservations recommended as this restaurant has been becoming more popular with good reason. The tongue sandwich is delicious (kind of like a reuben), steak tarter and corn bread great too. Cocktails hit the spot as well. The front also has food that you can buy for home, interesting meats and so forth for your next event.
Just a talented kitchen with some really nice peeps. Was everything perfect? No. But's a solid dining experience and worth your time. The apps were the superstars here.
