Joes General Store - Midlothian

Absolutely visit this place! I give it five stars without hesitation. Joe and his wonderful wife have transformed this restaurant over the past few months. They’ve introduced a new menu with the best smoked ribs and brisket you can find. You can even see the smoker at work as you approach! They serve breakfast too, and the brisket burrito has become a staple in our household. Plus, they offer bait, ice, and picnic supplies. Thank you, Joe's Country Store, for bringing a taste of country back to the country store!

This restaurant doesn't qualify as a genuine smokehouse. It seems that they prepare their meat in advance and then store it. When you place an order, the meat is simply taken out and reheated in the microwave. The quality of the meat and sides is quite mediocre. The only positive aspect I can mention is that the staff was friendly, and thankfully, I didn't get food poisoning.

I tried the BBQ at Joe's for the first time today, and I must say it was fantastic. I ordered the '2 Meat Plate' featuring pork ribs and sliced brisket, and both meats were incredibly flavorful and tender. The beans and potato salad were seasoned perfectly, offering a rich taste that I thoroughly enjoyed with every bite. My co-worker had the pork ribs and hot links, and he declared the hot links to be the best he’s ever had. The young couple running the place was exceptionally kind and attentive, even though they were busy. I highly recommend stopping by for a meal—you definitely won’t be disappointed. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any pictures, but that just gives me a reason to update this review in the future!

Absolutely fantastic! This was our first visit to Joe's General Store, and we are definitely going back! We both ordered the two-meat plate, and the brisket was among the most tender and flavorful we've ever tasted! Next time, we'll be sure to call ahead for the ribs. The sides were incredible, too. We highly recommend this place!

It seems this place has new owners, though I’m not sure when that change occurred. The menu displayed online is outdated, and the prices are incorrect as well. I'm also uncertain if the operating hours have changed. We arrived around 3 PM, and the "open" sign was lit, but the staff appeared a bit surprised to have customers and initially hesitated about whether they had food available. They did have food, but the only main dish offered was pulled pork sandwiches, and many of the sides were unavailable. We ordered two pulled pork sandwiches, along with potato salad and two bottled Cokes (they were out of fountain drinks) for just over $30. The flavor of the pulled pork was quite good, but there wasn’t any BBQ sauce available, and I didn’t see any offered around. To be fair, I didn’t inquire about it. The potato salad was decent, but it lacked much flavor. Hopefully, once the new owners settle in, things will improve a bit. I would recommend they update their online information so that customers aren't left expecting one experience and getting something quite different.
