Bidrage med feedbackMy experience at Udupi Bhavan was fantastic! I tried several South Indian dishes including Plain Masala Dosa, Mysore Masala Dosa, Uttapam, Curd Rice, Besi Belli Bhat, and tamarind Rice. We also had Methi Matar Malai, Potato Bonda, Dahi Vada, and Vegetable Cutlet. I was recommended this place by neighbors and friends and it was definitely worth the drive to Middle town. Compared to other Indian restaurants in CT, the presentation of food is not the best and it is self-service. This means you order at the counter, pick your drink, and pick up your order when it's ready. After eating, you are responsible for disposing of your dishes in the garbage bin. While booking isn't usually necessary, it's recommended for weekends or holidays to avoid wait times. The person at the counter was very friendly and helpful, suggesting dishes for us to try. Overall, it was a pleasant and cost-effective experience and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to try some delicious South Indian food.
I sometimes drive 40 minutes to have lunch at this restaurant. The South Indian food here is always on point. I tried the Rava dosa, Poori Bhaji, and podi idly and they were all delicious. The Rava dosa was crispy and perfectly cooked, the Poori Bhaji was great, and the coffee was spot on! I recommend giving it a try.
We went fruit picking at Lyman and were pleasantly surprised to find a South Indian cuisine restaurant nearby. We decided to try it out and were impressed with the fresh and authentic food. The dosa was perfectly crispy and the idly was tasty as well.
Imho, the taste here is very very bland. Since its a south Indian restaurant, I was at-least expecting the dosas, idlis, sambhar, chutneys to be of the finest taste and quality. I was wrong. We drove 25 miles to taste the South Indian cuisine, but we were disappointed. The Mysore Masala dosa, had tonnes of mashed potato, absolutely taste less. Idli was like it was prepared at least a week back. Sambhar was boiled yellow daal. Surprisingly an extra bowl of sambhar costs $3, lol. Rava paneer dosa, had tonnes of bland mashed potato (not sure why) and refined oil. I will not review the chana-bhatura, samosa chaat or Chilly paneer, considering its not a part of south indian cuisine, but they were not of good taste either. The presentation was good and there was cleanliness in the preparation of the food. I am writing this, so that the restaurant improves its offerings, so that we can come again and enjoy the cuisine. All the best!
The food was pretty good, but I was very shocked to see how little effort was put into ambience and hygiene. Not to mention the use of all plastic and styrofoam cups and plates, it pains me to think of how much waste gets generated on a daily basis. I really wish they would make changes in the right direction.
