Kick-ass authentic Indian food. The owner was a bit impatient but the food fixed that. This is the chicken curry meal. It came with a beverage, rice, choley, and naan. They also have a huge variety of Indian groceries. I'm definitely coming back soon.
Love this place!!. I created this account because I really felt like I had to chime in for this place. I've been going there for my Indian food fix for 3 4 years now. Mind you, prior to being taken here by a friend, I didn't even know what Indian food tasted like! Now that I've moved, I definitely make it a point to eat there on my Miami visits.<br/ <br/ <br/ Some things to keep in mind:<br/ <br/ 1. This is an Indian market with a counter in the back, not a restaurant! It comfortably seats a small number of people.<br/ <br/ 2. If you are planning to take a ton of friends, it is usually a good idea to call first and ask if it is packed or not. Otherwise, you may stand around for a bit or need to take the food and eat somewhere else (which is really not a bad deal either, since the food is awesome).<br/ <br/ 3. This is a small business. Approach the store with this in mind. <br/ <br/ 4. Being rude or overly demanding is a bad idea anywhere, but particularly so when the location is more of a store and less of a service oriented restaurant. <br/ <br/ 5. On the run? Give them a call, order your food, and feel free to pick it up!<br/ <br/ <br/ The owners have always been really nice and, when they have time, are willing to have long conversations with you as you [and your friends] munch away. I have never felt rushed there and the food is usually delicious! I have also bought things from the market to make at home.<br/ <br/ I've taken friends from totally different walks of life here, and all have been treated respectfully. I think the owners are very accommodating and really interesting people.
Our Weekly Treat. My son goes to FIU and he found this little hole-in-the-wall gem of a place, and dragged me here. I started dragging colleagues from work here and now we have a set Friday lunch date at Spice n Curry.<br/ <br/ Do not expect a high class restaurant experience. Do not expect regular restaurant 'service '. Jai and his helper run the grocery store, man the cash register, cook the food, serve the food and provide a lively running commentary on everything from world politics to raising a family. <br/ <br/ The front door is intimidating ... dusty and full of old posters and ads for phone cards... you will wonder... 'should I go in here? ' GO IN!! As you enter, you will find yourself in a chaotic Indian grocery store loaded with shelves jammed with packaged Indian foods, fresh and frozen foods, incense, hard to find beauty hair products. <br/ <br/ To get to the food counter, you need to dodge giant bags of fragrant rice from all over India, a coffin freezer of incredible locally made Indian ice cream treats, and piles and piles of strange, exotic fresh veggies. <br/ <br/ Seat yourself at the counter and let Jai tell you about all the food available; the selection is not huge, but it is authentic. It is the kind of amazing food that I found in India, not the American-ized version of it. Occasionally, he tries out new foods on us. It 's always an adventure.<br/ <br/ Lunch is served on paper plates and you get your napkins from a roll of paper towels. Perch on a stool at the bar and dig in! Average price for a GIANT lunch is around $8 with main course, rice, chickpea soup, naan, and a drink. (Get your own drink from the cooler behind the produce section. There are only 6 stools in total, so if they are all filled, you either wait or get take-out.<br/ <br/ Occasionally, Jai gets backed up (a bus full of older Indian Grandmothers was there one day I was there...dickering with him over why they needed to pay sales tax. Answer: 'respectfully, Grandmothers... everyone needs to pay sales tax '. This took a half an hour of heated dialogue in Hindi and you might need to wait for service or to check out. It 's worth the wait. <br/ <br/ I highly recommend this place for the adventurous soul or someone in search of authentic Indian food (not cuisine
Kind of scary for Indian.... Kind of intimidating for someone who has never tried Indian, so I got samosas and chicken samosas with a sweet sauce to go. They were really tasty but not overwhelmingly spicy. And not so greasy at all which was a big plus.
