Le Bistrot des Sommeliers - Metz

Stumbled on this restaurant on our way down to the Champions League final in Munich. All seven of us had a fantastic meal accompanied by some great wines. Favourite two starters were the quail and the black pudding, both oustanding. My duck main was superb and the scallops were equally well received. The real stars, however, were the cheeseboard and the staff. The cheese was beautifully presented with a wide selection of French produce and a superb finish to the meal, helped with an extra bottle of big red wine to help it down. And the lady that looked after us was brilliant; attentive without being over bearing, helping us with directions to the hotel ... she was a real star. With a well deserved tip and plenty of beer and wine our meal came to 70 euros a person. Great value for such a brilliant evening.

This restaurant is in the Michelin Guide as a good value place, but was not previously on Trip Advisor. We tried it as it was not far from our hotel near the Metz railway station. We had an excellent meal - all our courses were good, especially the help yourself cheese selection. There was a huge choice of wines at varying prices, and friendly, efficient service from a charming waitress with excellent English. We had a very enjoyable meal here.

This Bistrot was a bit of a curate's egg. The food was excellent, the wine list was good but the service was classic old fashioned French: completely off hand. We had steak and chips and the food was just right.

The food is pretty bad, Tasteless. Very slow to prepare and the service for such a small place is terrible slow. No English menu. Really I do not know where the place got good reviews.

This place was recommended by lonely planet and they were on the money! The wine list was extensive and the staff and other diners were fun and friendly. The food was wholesome and hearty, and the fixed price menu a steal. Would definitely go back.
