The food is amazing, authentic and there's a lot of choices. My favorite was the fish soup, Tsar's solianka. Portions are large. Great service! Thumbs up.
We were with a Russian tour guide who recommended Kavkaz as a good place to eat lunch. We were the only diners when we first arrived and were seated in a charming and colorfully decorated side room. The menu has photos of each item which is extremely helpful. Our table of 6 ordered the eggplant stuffed with walnut nut paste, stuffed grape leaves, a small cheese flatbread pie, a larger pie with an egg on top, various kabobs, dumplings and several other dishes. Everything was fantastic and our group raved about all the items ordered. The only negative comment is that service was a little slow, both getting the food and getting the bill. When we left, the restaurant was packed with locals always a good sign.
What an amazing restaurant! From the interior design and the unique physical structure to the food and service! We had some difficulties communicating to the server due to the language barrier but that was also part of our amazing experience. The food was fantastic with many to choose from. Nice varieties. We saw many locals eating there which is always a good sign. One of the best and cute restaurants that we tried on our trip to St Pete and we were very happy to find it by accident.
After being turned away by a sour faced bint at the nearby Pelmenya restaurant for being ‘too intoxicated’, I rambled a few minutes down the road and found this place on the corner. I stuck my beak through the door to suss the place out. A few spare tables with the odd diner eyeing me up and I staggered towards one of the lovely (but menopausal) waitresses. ‘Table for one please darling’ I bellowed, slapping my belly like a Zulu to indicate my hunger. Sure enough I was provided one and instantly ordered a pint. I always like to neck a pint before I even open a restaurant menu. And what a menu this was, a variety of dishes mainly from the Georgia region. I mistook this initially for the US state and asked for a stack on pancakes and a milkshake. The waitress amazingly took time to sit beside me and help me both read and select items to eat. I freely admit I was half cut and the old mince pies have really been playing up since I started vaping. ‘Your the Rose to my Fred’ I whispered to her The grub was soon served and wow what a feast. ‘This will do nicely!” I blurted as the food was laid in front of me. I had a cheesy bread with egg thing, lamb stew and two massive baked spuds. All cooked with great care and all delicious. I greedily took each spud in my hand and ate like apples before tackling the stew and bread. A mid meal barry was required but it took nothing away from the quality of the meal. The lager kept coming as I just took in the enormity of what I had just eaten into account. The old waitress could not have been nicer but my thoughts soon turned back to the dreadful service at Pelmenya. With rage in my stomach I settled the bill and said my farewells to both diners and staff. Back I went to get my revenge and one giant slash in full view of the diners at Pelmenya meant I finished the night in a really positive frame of mine. Hard to put a price on good service but I value it very highly. I felt like Lubbock when asked the leave the first place but ended up feeling like Barrymore on leaving this one. Recommended
