King Union Grocery - Memphis

I had a fantastic breakfast! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was relaxed. It wasn’t busy at all. The Monte Cristo was delicious, and while the chicken and waffles were fairly standard, they were still enjoyable. We found it a bit confusing that the street entrance was locked, which made us think the place was closed. It might be better to enter through the hotel or to catch someone’s attention. Fortunately, they saw us and promptly let us in. Overall, it was a really great experience, and I recommend it for a casual breakfast downtown.

I stopped by for a late-night drink while staying at the unfortunately rundown DoubleTree hotel. I ordered a smoked Old Fashioned, but they didn’t have the ingredients. So, I opted for a bourbon basil ginger smash instead. When it arrived, it was clear but oddly cloudy—I didn’t think there was a bourbon that wasn’t a rich amber color, yet it seemed to be missing that. There was so much ice in the drink that I couldn’t even stir it. When I mentioned this to the manager, she said the bartender had already consumed it, so there was nothing she could do. Also, be cautious of the automatic 20% gratuity they add for late-night orders, which kicked in at 9:30. In total, I ended up spending $36 for two drinks, and one didn’t even contain any liquor! To top it off, the music was so loud that it made conversation nearly impossible. It’s disheartening to see this city decline. We used to love the hotel and the area, but now it doesn’t feel safe at all. Good luck to Memphis.

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. It's definitely an undiscovered gem! We plan to bring the kids next time and spend some time relaxing there.

Quick and convenient to the doubletree hotel. Food is okay and a good selection for breakfast and dinner. Service is solid: these servers are working hard and always pleasant and helpful.

I like that this restaurant is open until midnight. We had a late check-in to the hotel this is inside of and this was super convenient. We had the Club Delta and fries.
