Shophouse Kitchen - Melbourne

Loved how many choices they had! I ordered 'crispy pork ' however I got slow cooked pork belly, which has a very interesting taste. Huge servings and the staff were really friendly! Will be back! The dumplings were great and the buns were delicious, a must go! Clean too!

Good beef brisket, tender and tasty, paired with chewy noodles. Perhaps it's lucky I got takeaway, as the salty soup was served on the side. Unfortunately, the kitchen and waitstaff were a mess at the first Friday lunch rush! I think I'll give them a few weeks until they settle into a routine.

Quick service with all the usual Asian specialties but keep going through the menu for some more than average variety of dishes. This place seem to be thriving in the corner of QV Square where several Italian places tried and failed to attract sufficient regular customers to stay in business. My favourite drink to order here is the Lychee Coconut ice drink that is served in a plstic coconut.

I ended up at this place when I was looking at the restaurant. It was reasonably crowded, the menu looked like standard Chinese. I had a 2 bbq meat combination. The roast pork was shockingly good. It was possibly the best roast pork I've ever had, a perfect combination of sweet, burn, and fatty. I only ate here once, so it's hard to vouch for consistency. The crispy chicken was just ok. It wasn't crispy at all. Rice veges were ok. Service was average. Price was good (cheap).

Shophouses kitchen feels like a good idea. Cheap, quick and lots of flavours combination and menu items. Perfect for rush hour and when you are on a big group. Unfortunately leaving shophouse can leave you feeling a bit ill. Maybe the fact that your meal came out so quickly was not a great thing after all? Maybe it's the oil maybe it's the frozen or instant ingredients. I am not quite sure. I mean don't get me wrong I've never walked out feeling sick like I've had food poisoning, but more of an ill feeling after eating unhealthy things. Even with things like soup which are supposed to be comforting. Not terrible but not great. If you are not a meat or pork eater, you might want to order conservatively. There's a lot of pork in almost everything on the menu, even on those dishes that don't traditionally have pork in them. Cash only establishment.
