You walk in and queue for your turn to be served. Get in before the lunch crowd. Ordered a smal vegetarian option and my partner ordered their daily chicken special option - $10 each. Food was amazing - the condiments were the highlight of the meal. I imagine that's how food is served in Sri Lanka. Good on them for not adapting to the Western culture and serve just curries like butter chicken, but they've kept their integrity and serve up the most authentic meal. They don't display everything, so sometimes it's worth askiing e.g. if they have goat curry at the back. Also, yes watch the chilli - very spicy (but in a good way). Will definitely come back. I wish they open for dinner or the weekends.
This place is directly opposite the hyatt in Collins st so easy to find, watch the step down going in ! This place is not exactly spotlessly clean which knowing sri lankans comes down to laziness, cleaning that’s for the servants, the service is scatty and there are too many people at the front counter not communicating with each other or in our case us the customer. We made a simple request for a few of one item to be prepared to be eaten with our meal. The staff misunderstood and prepared way too much food and would not accept responsibility- must not lose face- and demanded that we pay for these items they would not take no for an answer so embarrassed we did and did not return. They will shake their heads and say yes but may not understand and you will not know. The other thing that they do which looks terrible is the greasy hand written notes that they stick up everywhere Make a menu and put it up, its better for business. The food tastes great and the short eats especially are excellent if a bit greasy. Definitely worth trying and see what you think, prices are consistent with their competitors
Located right opposite Grand Hyatt Collins Street, Sheni's Curries is ideally located, has enough room for at least 20 people and serves chicken, beef, mutton and vegetable curries daily. For those who miss South Indian or spicy Sri Lankan food, and don't want to travel far from the CBD, this is an ideal place to dine. Unfortunately this restaurant only serves during the day time. Hope they will consider dinner in time to come!
