Bidrage med feedbackGood but in need of some attention. Back again and the coffee is good as usual but one thing that stood out was how tired the place looked. The green carpet really does need to be changed as does some of the tables and chairs (not to mention some of the display cases) that have really seen better times and simply look tired and dated for a Collins street Cafe. Whilst it’s nice to have a place to go that takes you back to a time gone by, it needs to be well maintained otherwise it simply looks shabby. There service is still good with friendly staff that get this place over the line for a like... but just.
The staf were very helpful and more then happy to go off the menu to please you. The breakfast was very cheap and very delishious. The breakfast meal size are large for approx $9. I would recommend to anyone!
Improved!. Going by the last review things have improved dramatically. The restaurant was busy and I ordered the Big Breaky late in the morning which was generous and hot. The other meals come out around me looked impressive. Can't comment on the coffee as I had a Chai Latte. Enjoyed being surrounded by all the fantastic artwork and sculptures something unique. Will be back.
Walked along Collins Street a few times during our stay and didn't realize it was there. The lunch menu is affordable with quite some choices, and the portion was big! We ordered a steak sandwich ($18.5), a chicken and shredded cabbage salad ($17.5), and a seafood stew ($22.5). The three of us could only finish the salad and most of the seafood stew, and half of the sandwich was packed away. All the dishes are amazingly delicious. The seafood was so fresh with prawns, mussels and scallops. The steak sandwich was HUGH with chips and the meat was very well cooked. The salad was refreshing too. I'm not a pea person but the peas, cabbage, fresh mint, soft feta and lemon juice combination was so well-blended, makes you want to eat more of the salad. Servers are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go again next time visiting Melbourne.
Apart from the superb hot chocolate (made perfectly for me!), the rest of breakfast was nothing to write home about. It was perfectly adequate but we had, and saw, better breakfast many other places that didn't involve trudging up Collins St in the freezing weather! The prices were reasonable, the artwork lovely and the stained glass outside the window spectacular but the choices are severely limited, especially if you don't eat eggs, and the atmosphere a bit "odd". Mostly aging businessmen. Find somewhere more convenient.
