Miss Katie's Crab Shack - Melbourne

Food was awesome for a midweek lunch. Fried chicken was great and very cheap. The crab boil was very flavorful. It had spanner crab instead of blue swimmer but tasted a lot better and had more meat. Venue the only let down, but everything else was fantastic

I think this place is best appreciated drunk; I went with my partner thinking we would eat some awesome crab and the food appeared to be very secondary to the bar atmosphere. The music was very loud and the food served apathetically. The crabs we ordered were mushy (read overcooked), had little crab meat and were therefore disappointing, but we ordered the rum marinated chicken ribs too and they were awesome. My partner was hungry afterwards, which is never a good sign considering we ordered three dishes. The toilets were also filthy which is always off-putting in a food establishment. I don't think we will go back here.

Miss Katies shares the space with the Ding Dong Lounge - a bar and music venue. So it lacks atmosphere, although I guess it would be different if a band was playing there. Otherwise you feel like your sitting around an empty stage and dance floor (which you actually are). However, the food was excellent - good-sized crabs cooked perfectly, crab cakes and cornbread - yum! And the BEST Buffalo Wings I'd had outside the US - really tangy, served with proper sauce and celery like they should be. Miss Katie herself was very helpful. Cheap-ish and cheerful - this is NOT fine dining but is really good crab. Oh yes, the Hurricanes to wash it down are highly recommended.

Had an early dinner here. Loved the fried green tomato appetizer (we each had one), cut nice and thick. I had the New England clam chowder and my wife had the fish tacos. Really tasty chowder! Definitely represents the area of the states that the owner is trying to create.

Seriously dirty venue. Sticky floors, seating and tables. Toilets were as bad. Over cooked food, served in a shabby manner by staff who could not have cared less. Expensive drinks..... Forget it.
