Every time I’m here I only get its signature omurice, which is incredibly excellent! The service is great with impressive decoration of the Pigs
I have been here a handful of times now and if you have not been here, you are sleeping one of the best Japanese food in Melbourne. Only a small restaurant, but the setting does remind you of dining in Japan. <br/ <br/ The dishes I have had here is some of the best I've had anywhere, and there hasn't been something on the menu which has dissapointed. <br/ <br/ I most recommend the special which consists of croquettes, crumbed eel, kurobata hamburg with cheese and a couple others, served with rice, side dishes and miso soup (during lunch hours only). Just absolutely stunning despite the $28 price tag. <br/ <br/ The hot stone cooked kurubuta belly and eggplant with Japanese BBQ sauce on the Rice and kimchi is also just out of this world. The black pork which they pride themselves in was so soft and fatty, it was flavour bomb. The eggplant was so delicious it also tasted like pork. Together with the crispy rice and kimchi, this is my go to for lunch. <br/ <br/ Special Shoutout to the crispy kurobata belly which was simple, delicious and crispy on outside soft in inside. However the meat to veggie ratio was slightly off. <br/ <br/ The deep fried crumbed kurobata loin ton katsu was slightly dry, but done well for this lean cut of mean. <br/ <br/ Please visit this place if you haven't. Its slightly higher price tag is more than justifiable for its quality!!!
One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Melbourne!! Food is .<br/ <br/ The restaurant is decorated with lots of different pig ornaments. There aren't a lot of seats so table booking is highly recommended. Great for dates or small groups.
Friendly staff, Japanese vibe, cute shop fitout. Still impressed how small their kitchen is and yet producing quality food. It was a hidden restaurant and all staff was Japanese.<br/ <br/ We had some good times at Gipsy and Pigs. The food was slightly overpriced but the quality sort of justify. Love the stuffed chicken wings and omelette rice. The sashimi was super fresh. I hope they had more cocktail options. The Katsu was supposed to be the hero but I found them a lack of flavour and bland. Look forward to seeing more new dishes.
