Chiba Japanese Restaurant - Melbourne

Why, might you ask? This is about the 6th time I've been here, and usually it's pretty decent. It has absolutely nothing to do with the food, though, but everything to do with the times you wait to be served.Food is great, staff are polite, prices are decent. But the last two times I've been here we literally waited forever and a day to be able to order food or drinks. This time around, we waited a total of an hour before any wait staff took our order. Once that was over with, everything else is as good as it always used to be. But an hour wait to place an order? Had we not flagged someone down, it would have been even longer! There were available wait staff around the whole time, our table was placed smack bang in the middle of the floor upstairs, so it isn't like we were hiding away in a corner. Despite several attempts to get the attention of any of the waitresses, it mostly was impossible to get any eye contact or for them to notice us. This place does get busy, and while that could be seen as a reason, it wasn't so when I saw staff sometimes looking at other tables aimlessly, or checking on tables they'd already served to refill their water, or what have you.If you want to know how the food is, read my previous review on this place, because that opinion hasn't changed at all. It's still amazing food, at decent prices, and once you finally get some service, that is also on point.However, a one hour wait and having to call someone over on both occasions since has me completely disappointed and I won't be returning based on that alone. If you don't mind waiting, then you will be fine. I think an hour is too long, if I am totally honest, especially for a table that is right in the middle of the floor, in clear view.

Seafood sushi boat was so fresh! We were told when we ordered there would be a 20 minute wait for it and it was worth waiting for! Great night with friends.like most restaurants now it has 2 sittings. Nice to be made aware of that. Parking is limited. If parking in the Aldi/Kmart parking good to know it closes at 11pm - no signage to let you know that. If locked in you need to get security guard in the centre to let you out.. hopefully he is at the door!

Recommended to us from our hotel concierge. Best recommendation yet. Food was so fresh. The service was great. We left here talking about how good that was. If ever back in Moonee Valley. I would definately return.

Went here for lunch after seeing the positive online reviews and left wondering if they have a lunch restaurant and dinner restaurant......Had a simple oakydon which came with miso and desert. The miso was fine, the chicken in the main dish was leg (lots of connective muscles) and the rice dry, with hardly any onion and egg. Extremely disappointing experience which my dining partner had as well with her beef noodles (which had tinned vegetables included).

My partner and i went here due to the fact that it is the number one restaurant in moonee ponds according to trip advisor. much to our disappointment, the edamame is overcooked with no salt, the teriyaki's consistency is jelly and lack flavor, the tatsuage chicken is averagemaybe their sushi is good but i wouldn't order non seafood mains.. wouldn't go back here to be honest..
