Liked Oaks on Collins very much; the education people had moved to this "new" venue and all of us found it very good. The only disadvantage was a brisk 5 minute walk for car parking, but one does get a good discount from the "normal" rates. The food provided for our lunch and afternoon/morning tea was excellent.
Had buffet breakfast at $25 per head a good range choose own table the poached eggs excellent soft and self service as the name suggests. Not to many staff to be seen. You can also get breakfast voucher the day before for$17 when you check in go figure. They don't come and see if you want coffee which I think ins a nice thing. Omelette is extra $5 and espresso extra. $3 not sure why. It was ok filled a whole. There is a food plaza on ground floor Thant is a lot cheaper and you eat back in your room depends what you want
Very average spartan hotel restaurant. Food is tasty enough - had the soup for starter (very thin pumpkin soup) and chicken & mushroom linguini for main. Small glasses of soft drink (Diet Coke). Nice enough glass Pinot Noir. Restaurant itself was cold - could do with turning up the temp a few degrees. Service when you got it was reasonable. Two waiting staff with only a handful of guests - they still couldn't cope - waited ages between Courses - not good. Wouldn't recommend it if you have company - go out of the hotel and explore the other restaurants of Melbourne CBD.
In their defence we did arrive at 9.30. Bacon was not covered and was cold. They only eggs on offer were scrambled.
