Gutsschanke des Staatsweingutes Meersburg

Three of us ate lunch in the crowded restaurant. All the seats with the view were taken, but we enjoyed it later. The menu featured many regional dishes. We ordered two fish entrees and one meat. The wines were naturally from the superior Staatsweingut and were all excellent. Our meals were all good too, but nothing out of the ordinary. Service was hurried, but pleasant. Prices were a bit above average, but not unreasonably so. We would eat here again and recommend it for all but special occasions.

I came around during a business trip and tried to get some dinner in the restaurant. The view was great so I picked a spot at the window (were just 4 people in the restaurant).The waitress (I guess she was the owner) told me I'm not allowed to sit at the window if I'm just alone. Other people may come along and want to sit on this table in a group. By the way....they only had tables for four people.I stood up and left.Other guest were actually shocked!

The wine bar is set at the top of the hill, looking out over the lower town and the lake. It has a big terrace, and we enjoyed sitting with a glass of the delicious and beautifully coloured Spatburgunder Weissherbst wine. Very relaxing. Didn't eat here on this occasion, although we have enjoyed meals here in the past. You can reach the wine bar either by walking up a lot of steps from the lower town, or direct from the upper town.

We dined here twice while visiting Meersburg over the past week. Whereas the restaurant management is quite abrasive, the food is really good! You have to look past the fact that you will not be treated very nicely and that you are just one more of the hordes of folks wanting to take advantage of the spectacular view... In exchange, you will be treated to a really spectacular view over the Bodensee & an amazingly tasty menu of dishes that are quite reasonably priced. We had the Matjes as well as the Felchen filets. The Matjes was absolutely phenomenal!!! It was as fresh and flavorful as any fish I've ever eaten.This is a great place for families. There are kids running around all over the place, but that doesn't seem to be a problem for anyone. It's a wonderful, beautiful, laid back place.Be sure to make a reservation, even if you only go by at 6 pm. By 6:30 pm, they will only accept guests who've reserved, even if there are tables available. Likewise, even if you have a reservation, it doesn't mean there will be a table waiting for you, but you will get one. It may take a few minutes, but not too many. It's worth it. This is a great place!!

The terrace is just awesome with the best view across the lake. The staff with some exceptions (Matron) very friendly and anxious to serve your order so fast they could. Because in this place it is always busy, especially on sunny days. Therefore it mind be necessary to make a reservation on time. And please, be on time at least 15 minutes too late. Otherwise you have a problem with the "MATRON". :-) The Food is plain fare, regional, snacks and good wines from the wine growing area of the lake of Constanze. Enjoy your lunch, dinner or sundowner when ever you are around.
