Lela's Place - Medicine Hat

Although I grew up in Medicine Hat, I'd never been here until now which is strange, since it's the oldest continually operating restaurant in town.  What a gem.  This is a genuine local place, and you get food and service to match.  Unlike chains, this is the kind of place where the people who run it love being there and that really comes through.  It's not fancy it's solid, hearty and fun and the price is right!  $8.50 for an early bird special (7 10 AM) which I couldn't get through, it was so much.  Highly highly recommended!

On Mothers Day went in and had the best waffle in my life.!  Numm Numm This is nice casual place felt relaxed and clean.  Excellent service.

They make a delicious taco salad servedby a waitress with a dry sense of humor! She is hilarious! Fridays are Flapper Pie days! Love this place!

Really excellent breakfast. I knew I was in for a treat when they asked if I wanted shredded or chunk potatoes. Different types of breakfast require different types of potato, and they have things covered. Great bacon, eggs cooked as ordered, and coffee kept refilled without asking. Could it get better - yes - they had sourdough toast.

Delicious. Oddly I wasn't very busy when we were there at noon on a Saturday. Every other breakfast diner (in other cities) I've been to is pretty much lined up out the door on weekends. Another poster had said there wasn't much for healthy menu options on the menu- I can't say one way or the other but we all left here with happy bellies after running a 5k that morning. It would also be great for a hangover day.
