Webb's Captain's Table - MAYVILLE

Our server was rude and negligible. we have watched them actiw, give them their other table stellar service, yet never came to our table and from the flea mouse clear, they thought we were bad customers. the restaurant itself made me feel as if I stayed in a cryptic, disturbing backroom, like someone's big tanten house on Thanksgiving - or as if someone tries to create an Italian restaurant mixed with a rural kitchen and there was a nautical themed name. and it's so quiet that you feel like whispering, even when the opera plays in the background. it has only a strange dream, as it is not real, and the meal times were essentially microwave dinners that cost $30 or more on $2 cubed plates. so if we could evaluate this place zero stars, we would. definitiw a never-recurring experience.

The service was absolutely wonderful! Our server was quite attentitve and so nice. However, the food was less to be desired for that price point. We ordered French Onion soup, the Rack of Lamb and Mahi. The French Onion soup had lack of seasoning and the cheese wasn't melted well plus they used croutons instead of baggette. The lamb was completely overcooked and covered in what appeared to be canned brown gravy that coagulated on the plate. The Mahi was good, but the rice pilaf with it was blah. The asparagus sides were quite withered. When you pay an average of $30-35 for an entree the expectations are higher than what was given. Maybe their lunch is better so I would start there if you would like to try this restaurant.

Visited as part of a trip to the Southern Tier to celebrate our anniversary. I had the fried version of fish and chips which I thoroughly enjoyed. The fish was a huge portion and the batter was really good without overpowering the fish. The only little room for improvement would have been real british-style chips instead of french fries. I mean, it's called fish and chips after all. My wife had the maple salmon which she also thoroughly enjoyed. The wait staff were very attentive and efficient. Overall a very nice experience. Oh, the ambiance was very nice with the exception of the Italian opera music, which could have been slightly lower in volume. Will be back next time we're in the area.

Portions a bit small for the price. Waitress never came around to check if needed anything till it was time to leave the bill.
