Benny's Bistro & Catering - Mayfield

I stumbled across Benny's delicious cooking some years ago in another suburb. I am very glad that he has re-located to Mayfield. Benny's Bistro at The Mayfield Hotel is my regular Wednesday night dining experience. There is a well presented menu with delicious dishes, most of which I have had. The downside is not a great variety for vegetarians and there is no vegan options, but ask and you shall receive. There is a great variety of chicken schnitzel toppers and Benny also has specials on for the week. His lamb shanks are amazing, usually being $20 for one shank or $25 for two. Believe me that is a big meal. Its a very reasonably price menu, with many delicious side available. I can highly recommend Benny's as a place to eat not only if your visiting Newcastle but also if you live here. There are many regular customers each night Benny's is open. Benny also caters for a substantial upstairs function room which is free hire and is open till 1:00 am. Check it out and see sometime. Open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner.

Benny's offers great value for the price, with high-quality and delicious food. The staff, including Benny, are friendly and accommodating.

I had dinner at this restaurant last night with a group of friends. It is located in the Mayfield Hotel. The service was good and the food was also good. They offer nightly specials, and while the regular menu is not extensive, all the food is delicious. It can get quite busy on certain nights. As a local, I eat here once a week.

I was invited to go with 9 others for Benny's seafood lunch and what a surprise the restaurant was full when we arrived . We were lucky to have Derik look after us and what a great job he did despite having to cope with a few on the table ...Well done Derik !!!! Our meal started off with an Appetizer of Stockton prawn & avocado bruschetta , flouour was great but the bread under neath ( I don't think it was sourdough ) was so hard and dry cutting intoIt was such an effort ,and I was fearful it was going to go all over the table ....gave this 5 out of ten .Next came their signature salt and pepper squid with packet Asian noddles salad with soy,chilli,honeyand lime dressing I'm still waiting for the salt and pepper taste to hit me !! Main course was Pan seared salmon served on sesamea & wasabi potatoes ,Asian greens topped with feta ,avocado&frost capsicum salsa ....If the salmon had been cooked less this would have been a great dish..but alas by the time it was placed in front of me it was cold and overlooked ......As I very seldom eat desert the Double choc marshmallow mousse with strawberries & cream was wasted on me but passed it over and was a great delight to another dinner........Met benny after the meal and must say along with Derik what charming friendly guys ...I take my hat off to them for opening the restaurant on a Sunday when they are normally closed .... Despite what I have written do go and try Benny's for a normal meal .

Delicious food. Benny's chips are the best I've ever eaten. The salt and pepper squid is always cooked perfectly. The service is prompt which is important for a mid week lunch break.
