Cracker Barrel Old Country Store

The food was fantastic! I drove around 12 hours from Queens, NY, and we decided to stop here shortly after arriving with our family. It was an amazing experience, especially for a first visit.

We placed our orders: Mom opted for a salad with Bleu cheese, which she enjoyed, and she ordered a well-done Hamburger Steak with white country gravy and potatoes. Unfortunately, as you can see from the picture below, the steak was still raw. We received bread with our meals, but Brittany didn’t provide butter or apple butter, so I had to get up and ask for some. Each time I inquired about something, Brittany would respond in a way that suggested she wouldn’t mind if I complained. Eventually, I called the manager over to explain that my mom was unhappy with her meal and that I had to fetch the apple butter myself. The manager offered to remake the meal, but Mom declined. For my dinner, I had chicken dumplings, green beans, and roasted okra. It seemed like the cook needs more training, as the food was all served in one large bowl, leading to my fried okra sitting in the juices from the beans. I had to move it closer to my dumplings to avoid it getting soggy. To make matters worse, our waitress didn’t offer any drink refills. My mom had to place her cup on the table as a hint before she finally received a refill after dinner. The manager did offer us a free piece of cake with ice cream for my mom’s birthday, but I had to ask Brittany for it since she hadn’t mentioned it, even after I had told her about my mom's birthday when we arrived at the table. I even called the Corporate Office and received a ticket number (126146), stating that the District Manager would be made aware of our experience. Overall, this was the worst experience we have ever had at this Matthews, NC location!

A hidden southern secret! There are three in the area of Charlotte. I prefer those on Independence Blvd. The pancakes are the best I tried. Service is impeccable and the restaurant, toilets and business are clean every time I visit. Take out or dinate...either well with me.

No wait. Waitress was quick to get our drinks and take our order. Food came out fast and was good. The shrimp were a little over cooked but edible. Saturday special pork chop was good.

The waitress who attended to us was attentive, but unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. We received old and cold roasted chicken, which was disappointing. I ordered both the chicken and the dumplings, but they arrived cold as well. The cookies were warm, but they were a bit too light for my taste. Overall, it was not a great experience.
