The Rivers Holiday Inn - Marshfield

Not a great experience. We were seated immediately after arriving. The waitresses took the kids drink orders but not the adults. She brought the kids their drinks, but again never asked the adults. After about 10 minutes we flagged her down and let her knowwe were ready to order. We ordered our drinks with our food. The people next to us were upset because they were there before usand had not yet ordered (we were unaware of that and felt bad). The kids food came out quite quickly. My 3 year old ordered akids cheeseburger. It came out on what looked like 2 pieces of cornbread. Turns out it was 2 pieces of extremely stale bread cutdown to the size of his charred hockey puck burger. He didn't eat it! The waitresses brought the sodas for the others but not myold fashioned (it was a Friday fish fry in WI). She said mine would be right out. Needless to say it never did. Our food arrivedso I went to the bar to ask since the bar was nearly empty. The bartender was trying to pour a draft beer for someone and dumped4 glasses of foam before the person asked for a bottle instead. I asked if my old fashioned was almost ready and he said hedidn't have an order for one. I reordered and he looked at me like he'd never heard of such a thing. He had to search the entirebar for whiskey (I didn't order a call brand) and couldn't find old fashioned mix. He ended up delivering it to the table for me(43 minutes after we arrived and 5 minutes after our food arrived). Only reason for 2 stars is because the fish was actuallydecent. However, we won't be back.

I have eaten breakfast here multiple times and dinner once. Each time the food was very good. However, what really makes this place shine is the service. Karen was my server for breakfast and she was efficient, friendly, and had an excellent memory. Shemade my breakfast experience great every morning.

I visited the restaurant on November 4, 2022, and ordered the fish fry. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. The batter tasted more like what you would use for chicken, and overall, I was not impressed at all!

Our visit was entirely spontaneous; we ended up here because our original destination was overly crowded. What a delightful surprise we encountered! The food was outstanding, and the prices were very reasonable. I say this because the quality and portion sizes provided excellent value for the money. The bowl of chowder was likely twice the size of what you'd find at most other restaurants. Speaking of chowder, it was the best I've had since moving to Wisconsin—this chowder transported me back to my childhood on the North Atlantic coast. The only thing that exceeded the food was the service. It's refreshing to engage with a staff that genuinely cares about the customer experience. We will definitely return!

My wife and I both ordered the 2-piece fish fry, and after nearly an hour of waiting for our dinner, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish! However, the breading was disappointing and a bit soggy. On the positive side, the tartar sauce and coleslaw were excellent. I also felt that our server could have been more upbeat and energetic. I understand there may be reasons for this, but I believe that this restaurant could truly thrive with a more positive staff atmosphere. Keep encouraging your employees!
