Lovely, tranquil place in the Goyt Valley, midway between Marple and Strines. The lake is pleasant to walk round, plenty of waterfowl to see there too. There is a nice cafe conveniently positioned to sell their wares. Highly recommended.
Great place to visit. Sit and watch the water birds or have a walk down by the river. Nice cafe by the lake, and a kiosk from which to get snacks. Can get quite busy on warm summer days, but not too bad if you get there earlier in the day.
We celebrated a special occasion at the Roman Lakes, and it was absolutely fantastic. Our guests appreciated the laid-back atmosphere of the place. Today, we returned for their open day. They're not fully operational yet since the COVID pandemic, but they plan to hold more events to gradually reintroduce visitors to the park. We enjoyed a lovely walk, had a beer, grabbed a bite to eat, and even fed the ducks!
I really enjoy the Roman Lakes; it’s perfect for a lovely walk around the Arkwright Road in Marple, eventually leading to Strines Road. There’s a fantastic lake for fishing, and a kiosk that sells hot drinks and snacks. The café offers an all-you-can-eat option as well. The scenery is also stunning, making it a great spot for outdoor activities.
