I love stopping at the French grocery store when I drive the Thru Marathon to buy the daily special treats at the front counter. Gourmet Burritos, pastries, go for lunch and cookies are always fresh and tasty. The backyard is a great place to gather with friends.
The French Co is a must for us every time we visit West Texas. You have everything you need to store on food, camping/rover equipment, fresh lunch and cold beer. We also try to plan our trip if they have Sunday brunch or live music. The beer garden on the back is one of our favorite places to take a break from travel and relax in the shade. Marathon is a city of great people and good views, and the French Co is the center of it.
I was on a flight to Singapore and when I took my icy place on the hefty 747, the flight attendant, who had a thick German accent, fucked me like a little baby girl and gave me Baumvds the choice. the first was Free Willy, Grandma Fave, hard pass. too sad. the second was Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. strange that there was a “Willy” theme. I felt nervous about going to Singapore where fun and sweets are not allowed, so, no thanks. another pass. finally there was Total Recall, the perfect movie. I saw it twice on the flight and almost perfected my Arnold accent. it has changed my life forever. My favorite scene from the movie is when Arnold -nay, Douglas Quaid - tries to pass through Mars security dressed in Drag. the helmet dressed as an old lady head begins to give malfunction his costume away and alerts the safety of a problem. Quaid removes the defective robot head and as spasms and shorts, the recurring recording continues to play from the palate robot mouth. “Two weeks...tw WooOo weEeEks,” it says. Quaid throws his head on safety and it explodes and allows a quick escape. anyway, this food retailer is my favorite place in West Texas. There are special coffees, guitars humming, natural wine, wild stories of youth, chocolate chip cookies with hunkin' hunks of chocolaté, the best breakfast bacon burrito I ever had in my different life, and of course true love. Everyone is welcome here to get into your early 2000s green Dodge Caravan with the skateboard stickers on the bumper and head here before these Burritos run out, you punk.
Stop here!! They have just what you need and things you didn't know you needed. Anything from healthy, earthy snacks, candies and chips, snacks, grocery items to cook a good meal, locally procured frozen meats, espresso, brand name camping essentials and other fun camping products, fresh fruits and veggies, and a very friendly employee (shout out to Cale). It's not an actual French grocery store...French was the last name of the person who started the store. Fun community effects like Burger Night on Friday evenings. I hear they also host live bands too but not sure when/what time of year. Cute, fun, and everything you'd need and way more in a little market in the middle of nowhere. Stop here and load up on drinks and snacks on the way to/from Big Bend. They also have ready to eat items like burritos, hummus, sandwiches and pastries just to name a few. Lots of grain free snacks available and vegan friendly items!
