Let's start off with the food. Very Good. The Gumbo was jus spicy seasond enough. The consistency was good too. The Blackened Catfish was again season perfectly and the rice was in point. The Yams, Mac cheese was good. The Greens was good but the cut was too big. The Salmon was way too dry but that's every place in St Louis. The cornbread is almost like cake but it has a good flavor. The peach cobbler is great and the banana pudding is good but it doesn't have any bananas. The waiting area is tight and the neighborhood has gone down. The wait time is a little long however the food is worth it. It's definitely on my recommend list of places for foodies try in St LouisParking: Street front parking only and two level of steps. Not wheelchair accessible. You might have to wait in your car or on the porch because the waiting room is very tight
I don't leave bad reviews on M.O.B. (minority owned businesses) but today I have to. This is not about the food as I would give it 4-5 stars from the one time I had it. This is about the service and communication from the gentleman who takes the orders. My first visit I was told 25 minutes and I had my food in 25 minutes. Today I was told 30 minutes and in 30 minutes I was told my food was coming up.Now I sent my son in and he came and got me so I could verify the order as they were busy and the gentleman didn't want to mix up the orders. What that says is they may need a system to know what order belongs to who. They can do that by giving out numbers like most restaurants or by asking for a name to attach to the ticket. My son went back in after 40 minutes and was told our order was coming up. After 55 minutes he was told it was coming up in 10 minutes, at that point I went back inside. I asked how much longer it would be because I had a Zoom meeting at 5:30pm and we lived on the other side of town, which would give me 20 minutes to get home. Now we are right at an hour and he tells me with an attitude that he can give me my money back, as if we hadn't been waiting an hour for something that we were told would take 30 minutes. My response was we have been waiting an hour for our food, in a calm tone as me responding like him would get us nowhere. He then asked me in a snappy tone what I wanted him to do. I told him that I own a business and he needed to watch his tone as we have been waiting an hour when we were told 30 minutes and then strung along. I asked would it really be 10 minutes and he said no it would be longer as something was going on with the catfish. He said my other 2 plates were ready and I asked if could I swap the catfish out for something else and he said no, yet they were still selling food. He asked if I wanted the food and at that point I said no, I can't take plates for one son and not the other so I told him to refund me. I paid by card and he did refund me in cash, he also pulled up the transaction to show me it was the right amount as he didn't give a receipt. My problem is if there was an issue with something in my order and you knew there was no quick fix, that should have been communicated. At 30 minutes in I should have been informed and asked if I wanted something else in place of the catfish. To waste a person's time when a simple conversation could have been had is crazy. I see the owner likes to respond with smart comments but I hope they own their mistake in this and find a better system to keep up with orders. Also if there is a problem talk to the customer, not everyone will be mad or nasty as life happens as does things beyond our control. What makes the difference is how we as business owners handle the situation. I hope this is a learning curve and or teachable moment so nobody else has to deal with this. I spoke highly of the food to friends and family and I don't want this review to stop anyone from visiting, hopefully they just had an off day and they learn from it. My experience may not be your experience and the food is worth giving them a chance.03/22/24 Response: It appears that you spend more time making it personal than addressing the issues with your business. If I did 1 review or 100 poor service is poor service. I do positive reviews from my main account as I almost never do 1 star reviews. Instead of you looking at what was said positive regardless of the 1 star, you did what I hoped you wouldn't and tried to turn it on the customer instead of taking responsibility for what happened. You can have the best food in the world, but poor service and a nasty attitude can ruin it. There are many ways you could have and should have responded but you took the low road. You have a pattern with how you reply to 1 star review and it's nasty, childish and very unprofessional. You only make yourself look bad and that's a shame. If at anytime someone from your business had apologized there would be no 1 star review. I have spoke my tru
EVERYTHING here is 10/10. But my favorite are the greens. These are the best greens that I have ever had in my entire life.
This the real deal, y'all.Little slice of N'awlins in somebody's old house. ? And don't sleep on the corn bread, either. They ever expand and add some sit-down tables they might have to go 24 hours.
