I am not a menudo expert but I’m no rookie either. Coming to Texas from Chicago, I know I have a background in authentic Mexican food but I thought/hoped I could find something even more intense, so much closer to the border. Just 0.2 miles from my hotel, I found it. After a brief walk through the rain (well worth it given the outcome), I got a huge bowl of menudo for 7.99 which included 4 or 5 hot tortillas, presumably ‘a la mano’. I judge menudo on a few criteria. Was the broth greasy? (No). Was the tripe plentiful? (Yes). Was the tripe properly cooked and not gummy or stringy? (It was perfect). Of course they also provided the necessary accoutrements of limes, diced onion and jalapeño. For a moment I wondered where the oregano and chile de arbol was, until I found it already at the table. Easy 5 star review. I’d be here every weekend if I could.
Best Menudo I have had in Texas. Highly recommended. The carnitas are also bomb!
Wow. The real deal! Staff were really helpful, try the chicharron. Burritos are large with lots of rice, beans, and meat. I didn’t see a shred of lettuce or yellow cheese here, it ain’t TB. Green and red sauce were excellent, fresh tortillas by the stack, meat by the pound. At least four different meats ready, barbacoa on weekends.
It's the bomb dot com! You gotta try it out people.
