Bidrage med feedbackI wanted a schnitzel on my first day after arriving in Germany and I knew a walk would do me good. I chose this place because a. it was open on Sunday, b. away from the center, and c. the menu looked good. I arrived and after trying to find someone who would wipe down a wet seat and table outside, I was asked if I had reservations. I did not and after acknowledging that it could rain and, if so, that I could not move inside, the server wiped down a table and chair for me. The outside area was full of Germans, which I took as a good sign. The server promptly took my order--wheat beer and a schnitzel. I know it's a wine house, but I always have a schnitzel and a wheat beer on my first day in Germany. The schnitzel was perfect--two pieces with enough lemon. It came with bread, which I didn't touch. I would have preferred fries and probably could have asked, but I didn't. I would definitely return again if I'm in Mainz.
Fantastic place a bit off the tourist path but well worth the taxi ride or 20 minute walk from the Domplatz. Be sure to make reservations for weekend evening dinners. The diners are mostly locals and all seem to be regular customers which truly is an indication of the great food quality. The restaurant is decorated as a typical German gasthaus. Certainly not glitzy or fancy but the business model is not to attract high end tourists it's a place in which everyone feels comfortable. Schnitzel is some of the best I have ever tasted and the roasted potatoes bratkartoffel (a staple in almost every dish in Germany) are done to perfection. Staff speaks English and they do have a small supply of English menus. Definitely worth a try.
Because I travel frequently I work for an airlines , I rely on the comments of Trip Advisor for restaurant tips. That is how I came to know this weinstube. Located in a very residential area, one would not just come upon this great restaurant don't be put off by the lack of street lighting. It appears to be a safe neighborhood evidenced by many families out and about after dark. As noted, the relatively small restaurant is filled with locals. Previously, I never had a problem getting a table, but this last time I was lucky to be seated might be safe to call for a reservation . My german is very limited, so I was prepared to order my standard wiener schnitzel which is delicious However, one of the servers, Sonia a charming English speaking employee very kindly offered to translate the menu. Thanks to her I ordered a schnitzel with lingonberry sauce and camembert cheese. OMG!!!! It was beyond delicious. I can't recommend this spot enough. To top it off, I had a glass of satisfying Riesling, small mixed salad, schnitzel and a cafe vienois for less than 14 euro !! Enjoy this fabulous find next time in Mainz!
Schnitzel is super tasty. The salads are also recommended. The wine card is great except that I missed some moss wines. All in all incl. attentive operation Concrete 5 stars:
Huge, cozy and simply authentic. Here it can easily happen that the small Schnitzel version itself still the great hunger. We feel welcome every time and like to come back. For the first time, you should note that only cash is possible. Since I have often searched enough for the menu, here is the reduced version that is currently offered in Corona times.
