Second Street Diner - Madison

The breakfast at this restaurant is fantastic, and the hot bark is a great option for lunch. The desserts are all homemade and incredibly tasty. The diner has a 1950s vibe and we have dined there multiple times without any disappointments. The prices are reasonable for a smaller community, and we are looking forward to trying the old school pizza burger next.

Let's begin with the staff, as they were the highlight of our experience. They were very friendly and hardworking. The coffee was decent, but we were disappointed with the advertised thick-cut bacon, which was not as thick as expected. We requested crispy bacon but received soft bacon instead. The scrambled eggs contained bits of shell, and the hash browns were undercooked. When we sent the hash browns back, they came back virtually unchanged - rubbery and lacking in flavor. Sadly, we do not plan on returning to this restaurant.

Normally just fine, came here for the good sweet potato fries, but just came today for breakfast and the eggs were somehow cooked in a weird way that made us feel ill, the hash browns were undercooked and tasted like hospital food, the toast was basically charred, and the sausage was almost impossible to cut through. The waitress was nice enough but whoever was cooking today really flopped and I’m not sure I’m coming back, even for the fries.

Excellent service great food, will certainly go back again and try one of those retro shakes?

I was there for an application for employment and the host was rude…Only pay there dishroom employees 12$ and hour which it should be more considering on experience….It was my first time in there but there was somethings I didn’t like
