Fantastic gallery. Very cool art. Super friendly staff.
Gallery 15 is as much a part of history as it is a restaurant. Located at 115 East Main Street in Madison, Indiana, the county seat of Jefferson County, on the Ohio River, the largest city along the Ohio River between Louisville and Cincinnati, bordered on the west by Cliffy Falls State Park, it is part of the largest contiguous National Historic Landmark District in the United States. Madison, with an population of 12,000, with over 55,000 people within 15 miles of downtown, features major architectural styles from the 19th century to the early 20th century. In fact, its entire downtown (over 1,500 buildings on 113 blocks) is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is 50 miles north of Louisville and 75 miles east of French Lick. And what is Gallery 115's place in all of this? It is housed in a classy building in the downtown area that also is home to a gift shop and an art studio/gallery, an 1840s building that has had no major construction since 1917. Open from 11 to 5:30 Monday through Thursday, 11 to 6:30 on Friday and 10 to 5 on Saturday, Gallery 115 offers sandwiches, salads, desserts and old-fashioned soda floats. It specializes on such items as bacon spinach quiche and a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant with pretzel salad. After strolling through the downtown area, my wife and I stopped for lunch. We started with bowls of tomato bisque, coleslaw and pasta salad with sharp cheddar cheese and bacon. My wife had a pulled pork BBQ sandwich with a side of chili, kettle chips and pickle. I couldn't resist a pimento cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread.
