Deus Do Sol - Machico

Whenever we needed an urgent coffee, or in the afternoon an urgent cold beer, this was our default destination. The staff are friendly, the beer is great, the pastries and sandwiches are also good. They will happily change a 50 Euro for you and you are treated like a regular after your 2nd or 3rd visit. I cannot fault them.

The pound cake was a very filling and generous portion size and flavored with ample amounts of orange zest, which, together with the moderate sweetening of the cake, gave a honey-like taste. The cake itself was fluffy, flaking into somewhat damp crumbles with every bite, falling off like the petals of a wilted flower in the wind. The Citrus aftertaste from the orange zest would linger in the mouth for even dozens of minutes. Chinesa is a Madeiran name for coffee with milk, which was mild and very delicious with the pound cake.
