Only very good food. Baked spring rolls were crispy, the diving sauce gave a mild saltiness. Morning Glory was licky, because I could use some chili, but well none of the less. Also a fried fish, cooked for perfection, with chili oil on the side. Frieder Reis was good. Place is a house turned into a restaurant. It's about two houses down from the botanical gardens when you get out of the river.
Joy's restaurant is on the quieter side of Luang Prabang. If you order, you can specify whether you do not want to be sharp. I had the pumpkin soup (20k) and that was a good start to eat. The chicken laab (40k) was mixed with lemon grass, mint and basil. The aromas originate mainly from the various herbs. If you want a hotter and salty dish, go with the fried morning fame (20k) that is fried with garlic. The steamed fish Joy's style (50k) was delicious. A mixture of tomatoes, ginger, onions and an unknown herbs for a good sauce. However, as the fish was a tilapia, and probably from the Mekong River, there was a earthy taste for the fish. The food is relatively cheap here and the portions are large. I would recommend coming here. But I only discovered four tables, so we'll be early. While Google Maps shows that it closes at 8 a.m., people came at 7.40 a.m. and were entertained.
I ordered a morning size, shrimp Tom yum, duck Laab and spring rolls for 140K KIP. Prices are slightly high compared to other Laos restaurants. Food is good, so no complaints. Owner Joy is quite friendly and beautiful to speak, they also speak good English.
Delectable Array of Dishes!! Stumbled across this Local resto as I was weaving my way through the tiny streets of Luang Prabang! I discovered Joy’s by chance was delightfully impressed! Not to be confused with the same name Hostel or Guesthouse! On a quiet residential road, Nam Pho that end the Mekong River! Great for a walk after the meal! The full menu is posted just in front of the entrance! A must try is the starter, Eggplant Tempura with the mild spicy dipping sauce! We savoured the Spicy Fish in Coconut! Rich flavours of fried fish in a coconut vegetable red curry! This definitely was to rage for! Also the Fried Rice with Vegetables was rather tasty! Finale was the Lao coffee to digest this filling meal! Highly recommend a visit to tantalize the tastebuds! DUI, our shy waiter was amicable accommodating! Sat outside comfortably! Indoor seating with tablecloths napkins! The walls are decorated with the husbands photos of his journeys through the villages! Candid photography! Great read is the framed newspaper article on the wall of Joy, the Lao owner her husband Paul, Australian! Resto open through the day til 8-9Pm! Looking forward to a return visit! Photos below!
