Bidrage med feedbackWe visited several bars (some recommended by Mike) and had a lot of good meals. We visited Martinhos bar several times during our stay and had a great time. Pedro and Gustavo give a great friendly fun filled service. Pedro does the best cocktails by...far and the price is very good compared with the Oceana and the cocktail bar next to Samar. Mike and Mary try to make your visit fun will go out of there way to help you in any way they can. They are constantly giving lifts to cusutomers. The bar is filled with a mix of English, Irish and Portuguese focus on the kids to make them happy. The food is good and is cooked very well and at a good price Super Bock was only 2 euros. Everybody does frozen food. I think Mary F's comments were Pathetic, Bitter Childish. Stay away.
We went in early Sept and it looked like it was up for sale all the fixtures and fittings were taken down and a phone number just stuck to the window. I wonder if Mike and Mary will stay in Portugal now, they had such...high hopes for this café/restaurant but it seems a lot are closing down around Silver Coast now.
WORST EATING EXPERIENCE IN MY SUMMER HOLIDAYS. As our holidays were ending (been 10 days in Algarve), we have decided to stay for a few days next to Óbidos to visit this village and nearby places. Today we came to São Martinho do Porto and...because it was almost lunch time and we could find a parking space nearby, decided to lunch at Martinho. BIG MISTAKE. Outside the terrace was full and noisy so no other option than indoor. Our table was not properly clean although it has been cleaned . Me and my wife were deciding what to order and asked if there was any rice (my 2yo daughter loves it) and the waitress said yes and we proceed with the order: fish and chips for myself, Caesar salad for my wife and a soup for our daughter. #1. No rice , info AFTER we order food for ourselves; #2. Caesar salad eatable but made without following the traditional recipe; my wife left half of it #3. Soup: COLD #4. Fish chips: WORST EVER (I am currently working in London and I have tasted probably hundreds and believe me that this one was the worst; needed a hammer to crack the outside to find a badly cooked fish, tasteless. It was left almost untouched. It is unbelievable how in a fishing village someone presents a pre-made FROZEN dish like that! That was the fish... What about the chips? Brown, hard, over fried... #5. Environment? Horrible, with the manager and chef always arguing and yelling at the waitresses to the point they both LEFT the restaurant.... #6. Price? Same prices as in UK pubs, food one zillion times worse #7. Bonus? No receipt when asked!!!! Manager excused himself with some system crash.......... My advice: don 't even consider to eat at Martinhos! Do you want to know what I have done as soon as I left the restaurant? Went to the next door one to have a proper lunch. As one of the waitresses said to the manager, loud enough for me to hear: I am Portuguese, not stupid ....
We were in Sao Martinho a couple of weeks ago and found Martinhos very good. The owner Mike was very kind to us. He even gave us a BMW Z3 convertible for the day as my son loves cars. He also let my son play...the drums in the band that they had when he was feeling sad about going home and that cheered him up. Thanks Mike
I came to San Martinho a little nervous seeing as I had come to Portugal and was worried about the language barrier, etc. I saw this place and decided that it might be an easy way of slipping in. Wish I hadn't bothered. I wasn't...massively impressed that I seemed to play 20 questions with the owner about where I was staying etc. Nor was I happy that he stood over me having a loud phone conversation while I was trying to enjoy my drink. However I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as the food was ok and it was the first day of my holiday. Then I spent the rest of my holiday trying all sorts of local restaurants in San Martinho and outside. Please ignore the ex-Pat comments and anyone saying they eat there lots of times. The locals in San Martinho are some often kindest and most friendly people I have ever been served by. Not everyone of course, but for the most part, I was given some of the best food and drink I have eaten in a long time. And so much CHEAPER! I paid €2 for a Tosta Mista (ham and cheese toastie! in the Sailing Club which was a 5 minute drive! Why go somewhere and eat at the same place all the time. San Martinho and the surrounding towns and villages have plenty to offer everyone! If you want a drink, go to any of the others. Want a decent meal, go to Portobello or Pesce no Prata. You'll enjoy yourself much much more.
