Bidrage med feedbackI guess I am used to a certain sameness in 99% of Thai restaurants but I feel that Maprang Thai is a pleasant surprise. I was recommended to come here and I think that the Blue Mountains are lucky to have such an interesting new...More
This is an innocuous little place just behind the new shopfronts that face the Great Western Highway at Lawson. It's cosy - even a little squeezy if you don't like it intimate - but a window table soon fixes that.Three standouts set this restaurant apart for me; 1 excellent authentic Thai food (the duck salad is truly superb), 2 BYO ... and NO corkage charge, 3 Low menu prices. The result is a table full of colourful, exotic, tasty dishes accompanied by superb wine (you brought it along remember?) for about 27 bucks each. You might match it, but I defy you to beat it.
I'm familiar with other Thai places in the mountains and this one outstrips them all. Traditional dishes are all done a little authentically. Nothing seems mass produced. Thoroughly recommend the Roast Duck Salad and the Deep Fried Ice-Cream is to die for!
Loved this place. Not used to getting great Thai in the mountains. Four of us dined on Saturday. It was busy, and a bit noisy, but we coped. The crabmeat spring rolls are a must-have. The Peking duck pancake could have done with a little more hoi-sin sauce, but pretty tasty all the same. Mains, we had salt-and-pepper squid (about 30 seconds too long), steamed barramundi and tamarind prawns. The prawns would have been better without their batter, as the batter succeeded in muddying the brightness of the tamarind sauce. Pretty good. We had a fried icecream between the four of us. Compared to the fried icecreams we've had in the past, this was fabulous. Came in a different triangle shape, crumbed and deep-friend. It had a lovely syrup and a spoonful of candied pistachios. I delicious touch. We had a nice young man serving us most of the evening. When we asked questions of him that he didn't know, he swapped with who I presume was a Thai woman, and probably involved in the restaurant. She was very good too. One woman was indifferent but a sharp word meant that she wasn't serving our table again that night. Bring your own is permissible. I'm not sure if they have a licence. I think not. For $45 a head, including the tip, it was excellent value for money. Would go again.
Visited the Mountains and was so surprised at this Thai. So tasty. The menu has some great dishes on it that I'll be back to try. Duck salad was phenomenal!!
